The first game of the season set the tempo as the Wildcats defeated the College of DuPage, who at the time had the longest winning streak in college football. The Wildcats played their final game of the season in the RC Cola Bowl, losing to Nassau Community College of New York, 27-12. The 1996 team produced nine All-Conference players, six Honorable Mentions and four All-Americans.
