Riverland Baseball off to Hot Start

Riverland Baseball off to Hot Start

Rochester, MN-

While the 2017 MCAC baseball season is in it's infancy, Riverland Community College is making a statement early.  The Blue Devils are currently sporting a 6-0 record, having traveled to Tucson, Arizona for a spring break trip to escape the Minnesota cold.

Much of RCC's success is attributed to swinging the bats effectively; they have collected six home runs in six games, and are sporting a .366 team batting average.  Their .609 slugging percentage tops the MCAC, and they have found extra bases on 24 of their 59 hits.  Marion Brunkemn leads the way for his squad, batting .333 in 18 plate appearances and knocking in 5 RBI's.

Riverland's strong early season form extends to mound as well; RCC's hurlers have a collective 2.39 earned run average and have recorded 54 strikeouts against only 21 walks.  Luis Estras has two complete game wins on the season and dual-purpose athlete Jake Erickson also went the distance in his first victory on the year.  The Blue Devils have been solid behind their pitching staff, earning a .948 fielding percentage and scattering 8 errors across six games.

Two of Riverland's wins came at the expense of MCAC opponents- a 5-4 win over Itasca and a 13-3 triumph over Anoka -.  They also collected W's against the JV teams of Aurora University and Malone University, as well as a double-header sweep of Presentation College.  Weather-permitting, Riverland is back in action against Ellsworth Community College on Saturday, April 1st.  First pitch is scheduled for 1pm.
