Jahr and Waldner to lead Riverland Athletics

Rochester, Mn-

Riverland Community College recently announced that Helen Jahr and Doug Waldner have been tapped to serve as the women's and men's athletic directors on the Austin campus.   The move comes as a result of the June retirement of Dave Lillemon, who held the athletic director post and several coaching roles since 1987 at RCC.

Jahr has led the Riverland volleyball program for 18 seasons, mentoring dozens of award-winning athletes along the way, including the 2016-17 Riverland Female Athlete-of-the-Year, Kassie Hardies and NJCAA All-American, Melissa Bemis. Jahr also coached Sara Lindeman, a Riverland product who went on to serve on the coaching staff at NCAA Division I Butler University.

Waldner has served in the capacity of women's basketball coach at Riverland since 2015 and was orginally tasked with re-building the Riverland women's hoops program at that time.  Waldner has coached at fellow MCAC program Rochester Community and Technical College and is also involved in the local club basketball circuit through the Southern Minnesota Wave youth programs. Waldner has his PhD in Infectious Diseases from South Dakota State University and will serve as the men's athletic director at Riverland.

The fall sports season is just around the corner for Riverland and the rest of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference, with many MCAC volleyball teams opening the weekend of August 25-26, including Jahr's Blue Devil Squad, who will travel to Wilmar, Minnesota for the Ridgewater Invitational.
