United Heroes League and MCAC Partner to Assist Military Families

Rochester, Mn-

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference recently announced an organizational partnership with the United Heroes League, a charitable foundation for military families.

The United Heroes League seeks to keep military kids healthy and active through sports while their parents are serving the nation.  The United Heroes League is headquartered in Hastings, Minnesota and offers several opportunities for colleges, businesses, organizations and individuals to help support their cause.

The connection with the Minnesota College Athletic Conference is a natural extension of the role that both organizations have in the land of 10,000 lakes and the Upper Midwest.  The MCAC is a 19-member intercollegiate athletic conference featuring NJCAA-affiliated two-year college programs in the Minnesota State Colleges system, as well as three non-Minnesota member schools in Western Technical (WI) College, North Dakota State College of Science and Dakota College-Bottineau.

Ways in which the United Heroes League seeks to keep military kids healthy and active through sports while their parents are serving the nation include:

Grants:  UHL has paid more than $500,000 in grants to help families with sport association fees for military families with parents who are deployed overseas.

Camps: Over 2,000 kids have had the opportunity to attend sports camps they otherwise would not have been able to afford through the efforts of the United Heroes League.

Game Tickets: Tens of thousands of military families have had the opportunity to attend professional and intercollegiate sporting events via tickets donated by sports organizations and generous season ticket holders.

Gear Donations: Sponsoring groups and individuals have donated new, or nearly new, sports gear in hockey, football, baseball/volleyball, soccer and other sports to help defray costs for military families with the high start-up costs of youth sports.  Click this link for information on gear donations.

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference  will be working with member colleges to support and advance the mission of United Heroes League.  Included in this work will be equipment collection sites at selected MCAC Championship events and connecting member schools with UHL resources and families which may reside in their communities.  Additionally, camp and instructional league scholarships at MCAC institutions and access to tickets for families will be a feature of the MCAC-UHL relationship.

With member colleges ranging from Worthington to International Falls and La Crosse, Wisconsin to Bottineau, North Dakota, the MCAC geographic footprint is one of the largest in the NJCAA.  Over a dozen military bases and communities reside in or near MCAC schools and several members have active ROTC chapters on campus.

How can you help?

Attend MCAC Championship events and bring new - or nearly new - equipment to be given to miliary familes via the United Heroes League warehouse in Hastings, Minnesota.  Bring your gear and the MCAC will take care of the rest.

Donate Tickets and/or Camp Scholarships.  If you or your campus have unique opportunties to help military kids stay active, such as youth sport camps on campus, access to professional or NCAA sports tickets, consider making a donation to UHL.
