Rochester, Mn-

Northland Community & Technical College and Riverland Community College have recently announced athletic department staffing changes at their respective institutions.

Northland Community & Technical College has a new athletic director in Jim Retka, who will assume the reigns of the Pioneer athletic department from Mike Curfman. The Northland athletic department will continue to report to Curfman in his role as Dean of the Thief River Falls campus.  Additionally, Curfman will begin his service as the president of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference Executive Committee.  Both Retka and Curman will begin their roles in July.

In Austin, Minnesota, Riverland Community College athletic director Helen Jahr has announced four head coaching appointments in the Blue Devil ranks.  Riverland women's basketball has a new leader on the bench in David Cheeks.  The first-year head coach is familiar with the program, having served as an assistant coach in 2017-18.  Cheeks also serves as the head track and field coach at Bethlehem Academy in Faribault.  Also new in RCC's coaching staff is Amanda Siskow, who will take over the Blue Devil Softball program.  Siskow has served in an assistant capacity for the Riverland volleyball and women's basketball teams.  Derek Hahn, the men's basketball coach at Riverland, will also serve as head coach for the Blue Devil baseball team.  Hahn is a former RCC baseball and basketball student-athlete and will continue at the helm of the Riverland men's basketball program.  Riverland's 2018 baseball squad captured the MCAC Southern Division baseball title and advanced to the 2018 NJCAA Region XIII championship tournament.  Rounding out the 2018-19 RCC appointments is Kennet Fosuhene, the new men's soccer coach at Riverland.  Fosuhene will take over the men's soccer program that was 3-5-4 overall in 2017 and fell to Lake Superior College in the first round of Region XIII competition.
