MCAC, United States Marine Corps Team Up in 2018-19

Rochester, MN-

The United States Marine Corps will be the lead sponsor of several Minnesota College Athletic Conference 2018-19 Championships and special events, it was announced Wednesday, August 22.

The partnership between the MCAC and the United States Marine Corps was facilitated and engineered by BrainBox Intelligent Marketing, a company with over 15 years of creating successful marketing platforms for their clients.

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference is honored to have the Marines as a feature sponsor of several Conference events and initiatives.   Mike Curfman, president of the MCAC, notes: "We see this as a great collaboration between our two organizations and are looking forward to working with the United States Marine Corps throughout this year."

As the largest NJCAA-affiliated Conference in the upper Midwest, the MCAC showcases some of the best NJCAA Division III college programs in the nation. Currently, five MCAC teams are nationally ranked in the NJCAA preseason rankings across two sports and league is poised to roll out the first-ever collegiate varsity Clay Target League this fall.

"The MCAC has a strong tradition and footprint in the communities we serve around Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin.  The Marines are a perfect fit to help us tell the story of our college athletic programs," said Peter Watkins, Executive Director of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference.  "To participate on our teams and in our league, a student-athlete must be disciplined, resilient, gritty, and determined, all of which are shared values between our best teams and the U.S. Marines Corps."

The U.S. Marine Corps will also be the feature sponsor of a new MCAC Award initiative in 2018-19; the MCAC 'Team-of-the-Week'.

Traditionally, the Conference and the NJCAA honor outstanding individual performances with 'Player-of-the-Week' awards and MCAC teams are often featured in NJCAA weekly rankings.

The MCAC 'Team-of-the-Week' initiative is aimed at recognizing a high-functioning team across the Minnesota College Athletic Conference in all sports that reach an important or unique level of success in a given week.  Examples include a program notching a milestone win for their coaching staff, a team participating in a community service project or a squad overcoming adversity to find success on the playing field or court.

Teams and athletic departments from around the Conference will also have access to leadership development initiatives designed and presented by U.S. Marine Corps staff.
