M State Golf Named U.S. Marine Corps Team-of-the-Week
Rochester, MN-

The M State-Fergus Falls golf program has been tabbed as the second recipient of the "MCAC Team-of-the-Week" honor, a new awards initiative sponsored by the United States Marine Corps to be conducted over the 2018-19 academic year in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference

The Spartan golf team is a perennial national contender and has earned the U.S. Marine Corps / MCAC Team-of-the-Week award for the week ending Sunday, September 2 as they represented the MCAC as the lone community college among several four-year schools in recent, early-season competition.

Coming of an appearance in the 2018 NJCAA National Championships this past June, head coach Jason Retzlaff and his Spartan squad opened up the new school year with some success on the links, with both freshman and returners contributing to some strong scores.

Read on for more on the M State performance and congratulations on earning the U.S. Marine Corps / MCAC Team-of-the-Week.

M State Head Coach Jason Retzlaff Noted:

"This was a great opportunity to open the season for our young team to face some top notch competition from some of the 4 year colleges in North Dakota and Canada. While Valley City and Manitoba played some outstanding golf, I was very encouraged by how our team played today.  Five scores in the 70's is great to see.  I was especially pleased with how some of our Freshman stepped in and played well in their first event.  My hope is that this team will have some nice depth and today was a step in that direction."

"It was a standout opening round for Ethan Lundebrek who led us with a 75.  He drove the ball beautifully all day and played with great poise for a young man playing his first round of college golf."

The Spartans will next compete in the Cobber Invitational on Sept. 8th and 9th at Wildflower Golf Course in Detroit Lakes.
