The North Dakota State College of Science and Mesabi Range College football programs both recently broke into the NJCAA National Rankings, on the strength of their 3-0 starts to the season and important wins to open up Divisional play this past Saturday. The two teams will have to wait until Saturday, October 20 to meet on the field, as the Wildcats and Norsemen will face off in the last week of regular season play to compare notes on offense, defense and special teams. However, the two programs shared a similar trait other than a 3-0 start under their head coaches; both programs are significantly involved in their local communities, giving back to the youth and towns which support their programs.
For the admirable accomplishment of success on the field as well as their community service off of it, North Dakota State College of Science and Mesabi Range College share the 'U.S. Marine Corps / MCAC Team of the Week' distinction for the week of September 17-23.
Mesabi Range head coach Tom Inforzato re-introduced the Norsemen Buddies program, an initiative structured around service learning and character development. MRC team members visit Parkview Elementary School, reading stories to students, promoting diversity and connecting with community members. In just his second year, Inforzato has made his mark on the Iron Range program, leading them to the MCAC State Championship Game last fall and earning a Red Grange Bowl invitation. While at the Red Grange Bowl last December, Mesabi took time to pack food with the Feed My Starving Children organization.

With their 3-0 start to 2018, MRC is 10-5 under Inforzato so far in his tenure in Virginia.
First-year mentor Eric Issendorf is off to a great start with his NDSCS Wildcat team, but his squad took time out of their busy early season preparations to give back to Wahpeton and their campus. Several Wildcats welcome students as they returned to school at Wahpeton Elementary and Middle Schools on August 23. Later in the semester, the Wildcats put their summer weight training to work, helping NDSCS students move in to campus housing as a key part of the Wildcat Welcome Week celebration. As co-Team of the Week in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference, the Wildcats and Norsemen join Central Lakes College Raider volleyball - currently ranked No.1 in NJCAA Division III volleyball - and another perenial national power, the M State Spartans golf team, on the MCAC Team-of-the-Week honor rolls for 2018.

With MCAC clay target competitions underway, as well as men's and women's soccer falls seasons and winter sports teams starting to organize for their campgaings, stay tuned for the next U.S. Marine Corps / MCAC Team of the Week.
