For the second time in as many weeks, the U.S. Marine Corps Team-of-the-Week honor in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference will be shared between two programs.
A veteran head coach in the oldest sport sponsored by the MCAC and a new program in a first-year endeavor share the distinction as Central Lakes College football and Southwest Wisconsin Technical College clay target teams are highlighted this week.
CLC head coach Greg Medeck earned his 100th win on Saturday, as his Raiders knocked off previously unbeaten and No. 17 Mesabi Range College on the road, 31-16. Read more at this Brainerd Dispatch feature story.
Central Lakes is in the drivers seat in the Eastern Division post-season race, but have yet to face Itasca Community College and Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College in Divisional play. Both ICC and FDLTCC look much improved from last fall and home field advantage in the MCAC post-season may not be clear until the final weekend of the campaign. Medeck has led Central Lakes teams for the past 12 years and CLC sports a 100-27 overall record in that time.
Southwest Wisconsin Technical College, led by coaches Matt Schneider and Dan Imhoff, have positioned the Charger trap shooting team to challenge for both the MCAC Eastern Division and Fall Championship hardware. Twenty-nine student-athletes, male and female, make up the Southwest Tech team, which currently sits second in the Eastern Division, just four points behind Lake Superior College.
As noted by USA Clay Target and Dennis Anderson's report in the the Star Tribune, shooting sports such as Clay Target are the fastest growing sport in the Upper Midwest. The MCAC is proud to partner with USA Clay Target to pioneer the expansion of the sport at the varsity intercollegiate level.
After three weeks of competition, the Top Ten leader-boards for both men and women sport several Southwest Tech athletes, including Bryenna Kuhn and Brooke Addison in the women's top ten, as well as Quintin Peasall, Garret Kreul, Dalton Gardner and Kaleb Johnston on the men's side of the rankings.
