Men's Basketball Tournament Information

#1 North 

22-5 overall / 15-1 MCAC 

Central Lakes College, led by veteran head coach Jim Russell, ran away with the Northern Division title this year. The Raiders finished 15-1 in Conference play and 22-5 overall in 2018-19. 

Chris Buckley leads CLC in many offensive categories and has dominated the Northern Division Player-of-the-Week award and opponents, averaging 21.1 points per game.  The Raiders will open with the team that knocked them out in the first round of the 2017-18 tournament; Rochester CTC earned the fourth and final playoff spot in a win Tuesday evening over M State-Fergus Falls. 

#1 South 

22-5 overall / 10-4 MCAC

Riverland Community College put together one of the strongest regular-season resume's of any tournament team, rolling to a 22-5 overall record and 10-4 Conference mark. 

The Blue Devils were co-champions with St. Cloud Technical & Community College but won a coin toss for the top South seed.  Deandre Anderson is second in the MCAC in three-point field goal percentage at 47.8%. Kwantez Simmons hauls in more than eight rebounds a game for RCC at 8.4 a contest. Riverland will open with Northland CTC in the first round. 

#2 North 

14-11 Overall / 12-4 MCAC 

Mesabi Range College quietly worked their way toward the top of the MCAC Northern Division standings this year, claiming second place in the North with a 12-4 league record and earning a 14-11 overall mark.

Bryce Hempel has been strong on the boards for the Norse, currently sitting second in rebounds-per-game at 9.3 a contest. Calvin Lee leads his team in scoring at 18.6 points per contest.  MRC will see a familiar face in their first-round game, taking on Anoka-Ramsey who dealt Mesabi Range a 78-65 loss on December 7 in MCAC Crossover action. 

#2 South

21-4 Overall / 10-4 MCAC 

St. Cloud Technical & Community College (SCTCC) finished the 2018-19 campaign as Southern Division co-champions at 10-4. SCTCC racked up a 21-4 overall ledger, including wins over Gogebic and Madison College. 

The Cyclones brought a balanced squad to the floor during the regular season and Dillon Haider  and Eric Racine  have been tough for opponents to stop as of late.  Haider currently leads the league in 3-point accuracy, hitting on 48.7% of his attempts; Racine earned the Southern Division POW three times over the course of the season. SCTCC opens with Rainy River Community College.

#3 North 

16-10 Overall / 11-5 MCAC 

Voyageur head coach Bill Engel is hoping his Rainy River squad is peaking at the right time heading into Coon Rapids.

RRCC has won three of it's last four games and is the only squad to reach triple-digits on Central Lakes College, the Northern Division champ.  Cedrick Harris leads Rainy River in scoring with 15.5 average during the regular season. RRCC will face off with SCTCC in the first round. 

#3 South

16-11 Overall / 9-5 MCAC 

Host institution Anoka-Ramsey Community College earned the No. 3 South seed in 2018-19 and will face off with Mesabi Range College, a team they beat 78-65 earlier in the year. 

Head coach Ron Larson and his Golden Ram squad will enjoy home court advantage for the weekend and will be looking for Justin Castro to continue his scoring streak; Casto leads Anoka-Ramsey at 18.2 points-per-game.  ARCC will play at 5pm against Mesabi Range College.

#4 North

13-14 Overall / 9-7 MCAC 

The fourth seed in both MCAC Divisions came down to the wire in 2018-19 and Northland Community & Technical College held the tiebreaker over Itasca Community College for the right to advance to this year's tournament.

The Pioneers are led by Bakri Gubara who logs nearly 37 minutes of floor time per game and leads NCTC in scoring at 15.0 points-per-game.  Head coach Rick Nikunen and his squad have won five of their last six games and look to be firing on all cylinders heading into the tournament.  NCTC will be looking to upset Riverland in the 7pm contest on Friday. 

 #4 South

15-12 Overall / 8-6 MCAC 

Rochester Community & Technical College and Mother Nature made their fans wait for it but the Yellowjackets punched their ticket to the tournament on Tuesday night with a 71-59 victory over M State-Fergus Falls. 

With the win, RCTC moved above Western Technical College for the fourth seed. Head Coach Brian LaPlante has proved to be a tactician in tournament play, leading RCTC from the No.4  seed last season to a first round upset of Central Lakes.  Rochester will look to repeat that feat this year as CLC-RCTC will tip-off at 3pm in the second game on Friday.
