The Minnesota College Athletic Conferece (MCAC) is set to grow both in the number of member colleges and sports programs for the 2019-20 academic year, as announced recently by the Conference office.
Current MCAC member Ridgewater College will become the newest college to offer a varsity clay target program; the Warrior clay target team will compete beginning in with the fall 2019 season after receiving support from the Ridgewater Student Senate and President Dr. Craig Johnson. Ridgewater expects to utilize facilities in both Willmar and Hutchinson in the implementation of their new program.
The upcoming fall season will also mark the MCAC debut of Alexandria Technical & Community College, as their club program will elevate to varsity status and join the MCAC Clay Target ranks. The community of Alexandria and Alexandria Tech hosts the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League Trap Shooting Championship; the nation's largest high school shooting championship attracts more than 330 high school teams and over 8,500 student-athletes in early June for a 9-day competition. Last year, nine MCAC member colleges took part in the first varsity two-year college Clay Target season in the U.S. in a partnership between the MCAC and USA Clay Target. Teams were divided into two divisions by squad size and the highly competitive season concluded with the 2019 MCAC Fall Championships conducted at the Grand Rapids (MN) Gun Club on October 16. Over 100 participants and coaches convened on Grand Rapids for the one-day event which crowned men's and women's division individual champions, runners-up and several team awards. Clay target is the nation's fastest-growing sport; current MCAC members with Clay Target teams are: Vermilion Community College, Southwest Technical College, Minnesota West CTC, Northland Community & Technical College, Itasca Community College, Lake Region State College, Pine Technical College, Lake Superior College and Hibbing Community College.
Ridgewater College has been a MCAC member since the inception of the Conference; Alexandria Technical & Community College will join Century College in MCAC membership beginning with 2019-20. Century - currently an NJCAA Division III independent program - will sponsor varsity baseball and varsity volleyball in 2019-20; read more here regarding Century College athletics.

With the additions, the Minnesota College Athletic Conference will grow to 24 members in 2019-20, making it one of the largest NJCAA-affiliated Conferences in the U.S., comprised of two-year colleges across Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin.
