Itasca Names New Wrestling Coach

The Itasca Community College wrestling team heads into the 2019-20 academic year with a new coach at the helm. 

Former NCAA Division I student-athlete Joseph Umlauf has been tabbed by ICC to lead it's program on the mat; Umlauf competed at the the 141, 149 and 157 lb. weight classes for North Dakota State University  While competing for the Bison in the prestigious Big 12 Conference, Umlauf completed a bachelor's degree in Physical Education & Health Education, with a minor in Psychology.  

At the high school level, Umlauf was a state finalist in two years, while qualifying for the state tournament in all four seasons at Wausau West High School in Wausau, Wisconsin.  He also excelled in the Freestyle and Greco-Roman disciplines in his career.  Umlauf tallied a remarkable 183-11 varsity record at the high school level, placing him in the top 10 all-time in Wisconsin. 

Itasca Community College - located in Grand Rapids, Minnesota - has long-standing tradition in wrestling; the Vikings have one NJCAA team title to their credit, along with 52 All-America selections and 125 Academic All-America honorees.
