The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) recently honored teams and individual student-athletes from around the country for strong classroom performances in the 2018-19 academic year. Teams and individuals from the Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) were included in the year-end honor roll posted in early July.
The women's basketball team at Western Technical College - located in LaCrosse, Wisconsin - was the top-performing team academically in NJCAA women's hoops. The Cavaliers boasted a 3.72 team GPA, the highest mark in the Association in the sport. Western Tech turned in a great 2018-19 season on the hardwood as well, winning the MCAC Southern Division regular season title, the Region XIIIA tournament and advanced to the NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball National Championships for the first time in program history.
Rochester Community & Technical College led the way for the MCAC in terms of the number of teams honored with four standout squads; the Yellowjacket women's basketball, men's basketball, softball and volleyball teams all received mention by the NJCAA. The RCTC volleyball team captured the Region XIIIA tournament title and finished third overall at the 2019 NJCAA Division III Volleyball Championships.
Central Lakes College - located in Brainerd Minnesota - also had multiple teams garner recognition; the Raider volleyball, women's basketball and softball teams all earned their spot on the NJCAA academic honor roll. Minnesota State-Fergus Falls joined Western Technical and CLC in the women's basketball honorary ranks for 2018-19 as well.

In addition to the NJCAA recognition, the MCAC issues an end-of-year MCAC Elite Team, which consists of the top performing student-athletes which excel both in the classroom and the competitive arena from around the Conference. .
A conference initiative which began with the 2017-18 academic year, MCAC Elite Teams are comprised of student-athletes who earned All-Academic honors during their sport season, as well as earning distinction in competition via All-Division, All-Conference, All-MCAC, All-State, All-America or similar NJCAA recognition.
