Wrestling Scholar-Athlete Honors include Three MCAC Programs

Winona, MN-

Three wrestling programs in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference had student-athletes recognized as 2019-20 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-America selections, as announced recently by the NWCA.

Rochester Community & Technical College saw five Yellowjackets achieve the prestigious award; all five RCTC selections are freshman.  Brandon Kidd, Jr, Francis Fuenfifinger, Gavin Christoffersen, Parker Dobrocky and Seth Brossard comprise the Rochester contingent.  Each of the honorees advanced to the 2019-20 NJCAA Wrestling Championships this past season and were instrumental in the third-place overall finish for Rochester, the highest placement of all the non-scholarship NJCAA wrestling programs.

Northland Community & Technical College had four Pioneers pick up a mention on the 2019-20 National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-America selection list.  Austin Thompson, Kaven Blazek, Payton Jackson and Raul Chavarry each were tabbed for their strong performance in classroom and on the mat.  Thompson and Chavarry are in their first seasons at Northland, while Balzek and Jackson are sophomores at the Thief River Falls campus.

Rounding out the 2019-20 list are two student-athletes from Minnesota West Community & Technical CollegeBraydon Johnson, a Blue Jay sophomore, and MnWest freshman Bryce Bickerstaff each were honored for their quality efforts in balancing academics and athletics.
