MCAC Weekly Baseball Honors - Week of April 19 -25

Rochester, MN –

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) office has announced the MCAC Baseball Pitchers and Players-of-the-Week for the week of April 19 - 25.

In the MCAC North Division, pitcher-of-the-week honors go to Itasca Community College's Mason MacLeod who threw a complete game 3-hitter en route to his third win of the season.  The player of the week award goes to Orlando Rodriguez of Rainy River Community College for his all-around play last week.  Rodriguez hit .500 with multiple extra base hits, and he played error free ball at 1st base as well as stepping onto the mound in relief and compiling a 1.24 ERA for the week.

The MCAC Central Division pitcher-of-the-week was earned by Will Hoernemann of Minnesota State – Fergus Falls.  Hoernemann picked up a win and two saves in his three appearances for the week, limiting his opponents to three hits in 10 innings.  Justin Dykhoff from Minnesota State – Fergus Falls hit a grand slam against Central Lakes College and racked up several other extra base hits to earn the player-of-the-week honors.

Maxwell Schumacher is awarded the MCAC South Division pitcher-of-the-week honor after leading his Riverland Community College team to a nice win over Rochester Community and Technical College.  Schumacher pitched a complete game and gave up only one earned run in his 7-innings of work.

Mason MacLeod

Mason MacLeod, a sophomore from Winnipeg, MB, threw his 3rd complete game of the season to pick up his 3rd win of the season and earn the MCAC North pitcher-of-the-week honor.  Through 7 innings, Itasca Community College's right-handed pitcher scattered 3 hits and struck out 8 while giving up no runs to Mesabi Range College.  He only gave up two free bases as well.  MacLeod has helped lead his team to an 11-12 overall record and 5-2 in divisional play.  Itasca returns to action on Wednesday, April 28 against Rainy River Community College to make up a weather postponed game from last week.

 

 

        

Orlando Rodriguez

Tucson, AZ

 

Orlando Rodriguez, Rainy River Community College's outstanding freshman, continues to make waves in the MCAC as he hit .500 on the week, scoring 7 runs and knocking in 11 RBI.  This week's MCAC North Player-of-the-Week crushed a 2-run homer and had three doubles with two walks, while playing error free ball at 1st base for his Voyageurs.  The Tucson, AZ native also took the mound in two appearances to pick up a win, striking out 10 and having a 1.24 ERA for the week.  Rainy River is now 10-17 on the season with a 7-4 division record.  They return to the field at Itasca Community College on Wednesday, April 28.

 

 

 

 

 

MCAC Central Division

Will Hoernemann

Minnesota State – Fergus Falls freshman, Will Hoernemann, earns the MCAC Central Division Pitcher-of-the-Week award after picking up a win and two saves in his three appearances last week.  The Hamburg, MN product pitched 10 innings, giving up only 2 earned runs and striking out 8 in his performances.  He also threw a complete game against Central Lakes College.  Hoernemann helped his team improve to 7-14 on the season and 2-4 in division play; and MSFF returns to action on Tuesday, April 27 at North Dakota State College of Science.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Justin Dykhoff

Wadena, MN

Justin Dykhoff of Minnesota State – Fergus Falls hit a grand slam, a triple, and 2 doubles last week to earn the MCAC Central Player-of-the-Week honor.  The Wadena, MN sophomore went 8 for 20 at the plate with 7 hits and 13 RBI as his team picked up five wins last week.  Dykhoff also picked up two wins on the mound, one of which was a complete game outing.  MSFF has an overall record of 7-14 and is 2-4 in the Central division.

 

 

 

 

 

MCAC South Division

Pitcher & Player of the Week

Maxwell Schumacher

Danville, IN

 

Maxwell Schumacher, a freshman pitcher from Danville, IN, picked up a win for his Riverland Community College Blue Devils and earned the MCAC South Division Pitcher-of-the-Week award.  Schumacher threw a complete game in the 4-2 win over Rochester Community and Technical College, scattering five hits and striking out 9.  RCTC earned only one run Schumacher and managed to walk only 1 time.  Riverland Community College now has an overall record of 23-5 and are 4-2 in the MCAC South.  They take the field again at Northwestern University on Friday, April 30.
