MCAC Weekly Soccer Honors - Week of August 23-29

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its first weekly soccer awards in nearly two years after not having any competitions in the fall of 2020 due to COVID.  These awards are for the week of August 23-29 and sponsored by the Marines. Rochester Community and Technical College athletes swept the women's soccer awards.  Mia Pierre claims the Field Athlete-of-the-Week after helping her team to two wins, both from her game-winning goals.  Fatima Sanchez Hernandez has been named the Goalkeeper of the Week following her two shutout performances.

In MCAC Men's Soccer, Mariel Belliard from Minnesota West Community and Technical College scored twice in his team's win over Lake Superior College, and helped earn him the Field Athlete-of-the-Week honor.  There were no nominations for the goalkeeper of the week.

Fatima Sanchez Hernandez

Rochester Community and Technical College sophomore Fatima Sanchez Hernandez (Banning, CA) had two shutouts for the Yellowjackets last week to earn the MCAC Goalkeeper of the Week.  Racking up six saves against Rock Valley College and another 10 saves against Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) in 180 minutes of play, Hernandez has increased her number of career saves to 169.  She picked up her 7th and 8th shutouts of her career as well.  The Yellowjackets return to the home pitch on September 8 when they take on DCTC again.

The MCAC Women's Soccer Field Player-of-the-Week honor goes to Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC) freshman forward Mia Pierre.  Pierre scored three goals for the Yellowjackets while leading her team to wins over Rock Valley College (2 goals) and Dakota County Technical College (1 goal), scoring game winning goals in both contests.  Pierre ended the week with 11 shots, 6 of those on goal and scoring on 3.  RCTC is now 2-1 on the season.

Mariel Belliard

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

 

The MCAC Men's Soccer Field Athlete of the Week is Mariel Belliard.  Belliard, a Minnesota West Community and Technical College (MWCTC) freshman from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, scored both the opening goal of the Bluejays season and the game winning goal with 5 minutes to play to secure the win against conference opponent Lake Superior College.  Belliard took 4 shots, 3 of them on goal, and scored twice.  Minnesota West is now 1-0 on the season, and returns to action on September 3 at home against Riverland Community College.
