The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its baseball weekly awards for the week of March 6 - 12.
Hunter Vikemyr, right-handed pitcher for Riverland Community College, has been named this week's MCAC South Division Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week. In his 6 innings on the mound, Vikemyr gave up only one earned run, 3 hits, and 2 walks while striking out 11. He also hit .412 with 2 doubles and a triple during the week. Fernando Marte, Minnesota West Community & Technical College left fielder, went 14 for 24 from the plate with a home run, a triple, and 2 doubles through 7 games. Marte hit .583 and had 12 RBI, 7 runs, and a walk to pick up this week's MCAC South Division Baseball Position Player of the Week honor.
Alexandria Technical & Community College right-handed pitcher, Lucas Burgum, earned the MCAC Central Division Baseball Pitcher of the Week honor. In his one start, Burgum pitched a near perfect game, giving up only 2 walks with no hits and no runs over 5 innings. His no-hitter was the first of his collegiate career. Levi Lampert, outfielder for Alexandria Technical & Community College, earned the week's MCAC Central Division Baseball Position Player of the Week award. Lampert hit .454 on the week, going 10 for 22 with a double, a triple, 3 RBI and 9 runs. He also stole 3 bases, walked 4 times, and pitched a shutout game to get his first collegiate win.
Garrett Schmitt, right-handed pitcher for Minnesota North College - Rainy River, has earned this week's MCAC North Division Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Schmitt appeared in one game in a relief role, pitching 4 innings and giving up only 1 earned run, 5 hits, and 2 walks while striking out 5. Schmitt's teammate, Demarques Ortega, outfielder for MNC-Rainy River, hit .400 with 2 home runs, a double, and 4 RBI to earn the MCAC North Division Baseball Position Player of the Week award. Through six games, Ortega has a fielding percentage of 1.000 with 8 putouts.
