Jose Martinez, a freshman from Puerto Rico, has been named the MCAC Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week for March 20-27th.

Martinez, a freshman, defeated Rainy River Community College over the weekend, pitching 6 innings, conceding only 4 runs (2 earned) in a 13-4 triumph.  Martinez struck out six batters on the day, with no walks allowed.  His overall record improved to 2-2 on the year, and Minnesota West swept the four-game series with Rainy River.

Minnesota West will be back in action April 1-2,  when they host John Speigelhoff Classic, a tournament conducted in memory of the long-time Worthington area youth baseball advocate who was killed in a motorcycle accident in the summer of 2016.  Speiglehoff was known to many for his efforts as a key umpire in area Legion, VFW and college baseball programs.
