MCAC Baseball Heads Into Key April Contests

Rochester, Mn:

The middle of April represents the start of the 'second season' for many Minnesota College Athletic Conference baseball squads, as several squads kickoff divisional play.  With the Easter Sunday holiday, several teams are taking to the diamonds on Friday and Saturday to squeeze in some games.

A few teams have had a jump start, with Itasca sweeping Vermilion (6-2 and 5-1) on Thursday to move to an early lead in the Northern Division. The Vikings will be challenged to hold on to the top spot as 16 games will be played across the MCAC on Friday, and another eight contests on Saturday's slate.

In the Central Division, St. Cloud Technical and Community College sits at 18-4 overall, and is unbeaten at home in 2017.  The Southern Division sees Riverland CC as the squad to beat, with the Blue Devils sporting a 13-2 record so far this season.  Both St. Cloud and Riverland are being recognized at the national level as well, with Tech garnering the #5 spot and Riverland receiving votes nationally in the current poll.
