MCAC Baseball Teams Head to St. Cloud Wednesday

Rochester, MN 

Seven teams from the Minnesota College Athletic Conference will head to St. Cloud for the eight-team NJCAA Region XIII and MCAC State Tournament, beginning Wednesday, May 16 at Dick Putz Field and Faber Field.   

Second-seeded Riverland Community College (22-4 Overall / 10-0 MCAC) enters the competition as the top performing MCAC squad, as they worked through a weather-altered Southern Division schedule to emerge unbeaten in Division play. Riverland will play fellow Southern Division foe Rochester Community & Technical College (12-20 Overall / 7-5 MCAC) in the first round.  Third seeded and host school St. Cloud Technical and Community College (15-6 Overall / 8-1 MCAC) will face #6 seed Itasca Community College  (32-12 Overall / 11-5 MCAC) in a match up of nationally ranked squads, while Northland Community & Technical College (21-15 Overall / 6-2 MCAC) opens up with Rainy River Community College (19-15 Overall / 12-4 MCAC).  Independent team and top seed Century College will face at-large selection Hibbing Community College in the opening round as well.

The NJCAA Region XIII competition is a double elimination tournament format, with the MCAC / Region XIII championship round to be held on Saturday, May 19.  The regional champion will gain an automatic berth to the eight-team NJCAA Division III Baseball National Championship Tournament.  Pioneer Park in Greeneville, Tennessee is the host city for the NJCAA competition to be held May 26-31.
