Gold Glove Honors for Pair of MCAC Standouts

Rochester, MN-

A pair of baseball student-athletes in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference recently were honored for their defensive prowess, picking up ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove awards as determined by the NJCAA Division III baseball committee.

Rainy River Community College pitcher Tristan Lawrence and St. Cloud Technical and Community College infielder Matt Quade both were named to the prestigious team. Lawrence turned in a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage on the mound for the Northern Division champion Voyageurs, as did Quade who patrolled first base for the Cyclones.

Quade, a sophomore from Paynesville, Minnesota, was a major factor in the Cyclone run to the 2018 NJCAA Division III World Series, hitting .408 on the season with four home runs and 25 RBI's. SCTCC captured the Central Division championship and represented Region XIII at the national tournament.

Lawrence was a leader on the mound with six of RRCC's 20 wins on the year; he tossed 46.1 innings and a 3.11 ERA over the course of the season. The sophomore from Tucson, Arizona, averaged 7.38 strikeouts per nine innings and only conceded 16 earned runs in 2018.
