MCAC Baseball Weekly Honors

Rochester, MN-

M State-Fergus Falls Spartan pitcher Jake Dykhoff tossed a perfect game to highlight a busy week of baseball across the Minnesota College Athletic Conference as several sides complete their spring trips in mid-March.  The best of several good performances have been tabbed Pitcher or Player-of-the-Week across all three MCAC Divisions.

 Jake Dykhoff

Wadena, MN 

M State-Fergus Falls  pitcher Jake Dykoff has earned the Central Division Pitcher-of-the-Week as he moves to 2-0 on the year in memorable fashion.

Dykhoff (Wadena, MN) tossed a 7-inning perfect game against Erie (NY) Community College, striking out 14 while retiring the side in order.  In his second complete-game win of the year, the freshman allowed no hits, no runs and did not walk a batter in his gem of a performance during the Spartans spring break trip.

M State returns from Florida at 6-4 overall to start the year and are scheduled to play next on Saturday, March 23 at Dawson (MT) Community College.

                                

Alan Pietila

So. / MIF - P

Menahga, MN

Sophomore Raider Alan Pietila (Menahga, MN) got off to a strong individual start for Central Lakes College this past week and has picked up the Central Division Player-of-the-Week award for his efforts.

In games played between Monday, March 11 and Friday March 15, including wins over Douglas College and Anoka-Ramsey, Pietila had eight hits in 20 at-bats for the Raiders. He cracked a home run and had 3 RBI against ARCC and stole two bases on the day.  In a 13-3 victory over Douglas College, Pietila swiped another pair of bases, scored a run and had a pair of hits.

Central Lakes and Pietila are scheduled to take on Riverland Community College on Saturday, March 23 in Austin, Minnesota.
             

 

 

MCAC Southern Division 

Player & Pitcher-of-the-Week

 

Johnnie Mieses

Fr. / 1B

Miami, FL

Minnesota West CTC baseball player Johnnie Mieses has earned Player-of-the-Week in the MCAC Southern Division. Mieses is a freshman first basemen from Miami, Florida.

The Bluejay was 12-for-19 for a .631 batting average. He drew six walks and stole three bases in three attempts, while scoring three runs for MnWest.  Defensively, Mieses was solid as well, committing zero errors over the course of the week.

Minnesota West is scheduled to play Dakota College-Bottineau and Rainy River Community College on Saturday, March 23 in Superior, Wisconsin.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

                                   

Jake Hansen

Soph. /P - OF

Coon Rapids, MN

 

Jake Hansen helped Anoka-Ramsey Community College open up their 2019 MCAC Baseball season on a positive note, going four innings in a 6-5 win over the JV team at Northwestern College on March 11. The Coon Rapids sophomore has been named Southern Division Pitcher-of-the-Week for his efforts. 

Hansen tallied a 2.25 ERA while striking out eight batters. He walked only one and conceded just one earned run in the win.  In addition to his performance on the mound, Hansen was helpful at the plate for the Golden Rams as well, hitting for a .444 average with four RBI and scoring four runs.  Cracking four doubles and a triple on the week moved Hansen's slugging percentage to an impressive .778 so far this season.

Hansen and the Golden Rams are scheduled to play next against Mesabi Range College on Saturday, March 30.

 

 

 

 

 

MCAC Northern Division 

Player & Pitcher-of-the-Week

 Phil Hindes

Tucson, AZ

 

Phil Hindes looked to be in mid-season pitching form as Rainy River Community College opened their 2019 spring season in Arizona. Hindes put together a pair of good outings en route to the Northern Division Pitcher-of-the-Week honor. 

The tossed four innings of quality work against MCAC foe Itasca Community College, scattering three hits over four innings and striking out five. RRCC went on to win, 4-3 in a 7-inning affair. Later in the week, Hindes earned a complete-game win, facing 32 batters in a 12-4 Voyageur victory over Morton College.  Hindes struck out seven while only walking two. 

Rainy River is scheduled to play Minnesota West and Dakota College-Bottineau in Superior, Wisconsin on Saturday, March 23. 

 

John Hudson

Fr. / Catcher

Tucson, AZ

 

John Hudson, a freshman catcher at Rainy River Community College, has been tabbed as the Player-of-the-Week in the MCAC Northern Division baseball ranks.

Hudson -  from Tucson, Arizona - hit at a .500 clip for the week.  In 29 plate appearances, he knocked three doubles and drove in 10 runs while also scoring four times himself. Hudson was particularly dialed in against Morton College, where he went 5-for-5 from the plate over the course of a double-header.

Rainy River is scheduled to play Minnesota West and Dakota College-Bottineau in Superior, Wisconsin on Saturday, March 23.
