MCAC Baseball Weekly Honors

Several baseball teams from across the Minnesota College Athetic Conference were able to get outside and play several contests this past week, producing several strong performances on the mound and at the plate.  Read on for the top picks from a strong crop of MCAC baseball nominees for the week ending Sunday, April 7, 2019.

 

MCAC Central Division

Player & Pitcher-of-the-Week

Jake Kapphahn

Fr. / SS-RHP

Little Falls, MN

Central Lakes College freshman Jake Kapphahn was instrumental in a 5-0 week for the Raiders and has earned Player-of-the-Week for his efforts. 

Kapphahn was 7-of-12 at the plate, hitting .583 over five contests; he currently leads the MCAC in batting average at .511 overall. The freshman from Little Falls, Minnesota also drew seven walks, scored seven runs and had five RBI's.  Additionally, Kapphahn stole a base and had a sacrfice fly to bolster the CLC offense.  He also took the mound on two occasions to shut the door on NJCAA Division II Iowa Lakes CC and MCAC foe Riverland Community College, picking up two saves for the week.

Central Lakes is next in action on April 9 when they play the JV team from the University of Minnesota-Morris. 

 

 

Austin Gohl

So. / RHP

Sartell, MN

Austin Gohl, a sophomore pitcher at St. Cloud Technical & Community College, has earned the Pitcher-of-the-Week honor for the week ending Sunday, April 7.

Gohl went the distance in earning a one-hit shutout win over Hibbing Community College on Friday, April 5. He notched six strikeouts while allowing just four walks. The Cyclone offense could muster only one run on the day, but it was enough for Gohl as he tossed the shutout win allowing SCTCC to claim their first Region XIII win of the 2019 season. 

Gohl and the Cyclones are next scheduled to play on Wednesday, April 10 at Itasca Community College

 

 

 

MCAC Southern Division

Player & Pitcher-of-the-Week

 

Alex Jeranek

West Salem, WI

 

 

Riverland Community College starting pitcher Alex Jeranek has been tabbed the MCAC Southern Division Pitcher-of-the-Week for the week ending Sunday, April 7. 

Jeranek, a freshman from West Salem, Wisconsin, tossed a two-hit performance against Vermilion Community College in a 6-0 Blue Devils shut-out win.  He struck out seven Ironmen batters while only walking two and did not concede an earned run on the day.  Jeranek helped himself at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and scoring twice for RCC.

Riverland is scheduled to play next against M State-Fergus Falls on Tuesday, April 9. 

Caleb Andreaus

Occocee, FL

               

Minnesota West CTC freshman Caleb Andreaus has earned the MCAC Southern Division Player-of-the-Week honor for the week ending Sunday, April 7. 

Andreaus had a grand slam home run among his four hits in seven at-bats for the BlueJays last week; three of his four hits were for extra bases. The Occoee, Florida product had six total RBI's and was a perfect 4-for-4 in the stolen base category.  Defensively, Andreaus turned in a 1.000 fielding percentage with four put-outs and an assist. 

Minnesota West is next scheduled to play on Tuesday, April 9 at Anoka-Ramsey Community College. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

                                                                                               

 

MCAC Northern Division

Player & Pitcher-of-the-Week

 

Erik Sigurdson

Fr. / Pitcher 

Woodside, Manitoba

 

Rainy River Community College, pitcher Erik Sigurdson has been named the MCAC Northern Divison Pitcher-of-the-Week in picking up a 6-2 win over Western Technical College on Sunday, April 7. 

Sigurdson faced 20 Cavalier batters in the win and conceded only one earned run to WTC.  He walked two and struck out one while going five full innings in the seven inning affair.  With the win, the freshman from Woodside, Manitoba evens his record to 1-1 on the year. 

Rainy River is scheduled to play at Anoka-Ramsey Community College on Saturday, April 13.                                

                                      

George Pimentel

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic 

                                                                                                              

George Pimentel, a freshman at Rainy River Community College, has earned the MCAC Northern Division Player-of-the-Week award for the week ending Sunday, April 7. 

TheVoyaguers went 2-2 in a four-game series with Western Technical College over the weekend and Pimentel was a big part of the RRCC offense in each contest. The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic product was 4-for-12 at the plate with three RBI's against WTC.  He also drew a pair of walks and scored three Voyaquer runs as Rainy River moved their overall record to 6-11 overall and 4-6 in NJCAA Region XIII play. 

Rainy River is scheduled to play at Anoka-Ramsey Community College on Saturday, April 13.
