In a wild weekend in Minnesota College Athletic Conference football, fans, families and followers saw several close contests, including a pair of overtime affairs. In addition, a handful of teams made strong statements about their teams in the last week of play before Divisional contests start in week three. The best of many outstanding performances around the MCAC have been tabbed as 'Players-of-the-Week' for the week ending Sunday, September 8.

MCAC Western Division Special Teams Player-of-the-Week

In a game decided by one score, NDSCS Wildcat Kingston Myles turned in some key plays to help lead his squad to the week two win. A 84-yard kickoff return for a touchdown proved pivotal in defensive contest between Central Lakes College and North Dakota State College of Science on Saturday, September 8. Myles' touchdown return was one of just a handful of scores in the overtime contest. The St. Paul sophomore also found paydirt on a five-yard touchdown run in OT to win it for the Wildcats. Myles and NDSCS, now 2-0, will open up Western Division play next Saturday at Ridgewater College. |

MCAC Western Division Offensive Player-of-the-Week

M State-Fergus Falls quarterback Winston Sweeting helped his Spartan squad even their record at 1-1 with a 40-13 win over Vermilion Community College. Sweeting was 15-of-30 in passing on the day, racking up 253 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. The freshman from Jacksonville, Florida, connected on a longest throw of 80 yards and found several Spartan targets, completing passes to six different receivers. M-State ran out to a 26-0 lead at halftime and never looked back, tacking on 14 more second-half points in the victory. Sweeting and his teammates will open up Western Division play next Saturday against Minnesota West. Kickoff in Worthington is slated for 1:30pm.

Northland Community & Technical College linebacker Tristin Murrin had an outstanding day on Saturday, collecting 18 total tackles in a Pioneer loss to Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College. The freshman from Richmond, Virginia had 14 solo stops on the day, and assisted on four other tackles. He collected a sack among his efforts and accounted for three NCTC tackles behind the line of scrimmage. He also had a blocked pass against the Thunder. Murrin and his Northland teammates will put their 1-1 record on the line next Saturday when they open up Western Division play on the road at Bottineau, North Dakota. The DCB - Northland week three contest is scheduled for a 1:30pm kickoff. |

Western Division Notable Performances:
Pioneer special teamer Justin Murray had three kickoff returns, including an 81 yard touchdown against FDLTCC Saturday, while Quantae Person and Marquail Alexander notched interceptions. Devonaire Clairington had three catches for 91 yards and a touchdown for NCTC.
Dakota College-Bottineau quarterback Jackson Argoe was 12-of-24 passing on Saturday, for 233 yards and a touchdown, while 'Jacks receiver Jalin Tolbert had five catches for 129 yards and a score. Jalin Harris had seven tackles to lead the DCB defense, who pitched a shutout against Rochester in a 16-0 game.
Minnesota West pushed Mesabi Range College to the limit on Saturday's 28-25 OT loss. The BlueJays were led by Khaileb Desmond who had 167 yards rushing on 24 carries and a touchdown. Caleb Tinklenberg hit a 44-yard field goal and was a perfect 2-for-2 on PAT's, while also hitting five of his six punts inside the Norsemen 20-yard line. Defensively, Jayvon Green and Beau Priegnitz both had nine tackles for MnWest.
North Dakota State College of Science moved to 2-0 on the strength of a 20-14 overtime win over Central Lakes College. In the week two affair, Dontay Watson led NDSCS with 89 yards on the ground and a touchdown, while Spencer Skeesick was a perfect 2-for-2 on PAT's and had a touchback among his three kickoffs for 183 yards. Nyheim Tucker and Nathan Seward both had interceptions for the Wildcat defense while Caleb Kennedy was credited with a sack among his seven total tackles.
Minnesota State-Fergus Falls moved to 1-1 on the year with a 40-13 home win over Vermilion. Dion Muneryln and Mykhal Chavis combined for 168 yards rushing for the Spartans, with both players notching two TD's. On defense, Keyshawn Prince had 2.5 sacks among his eight tackles, while Kyle Zuber and Ja'leel Williams both had interceptions on the day. Curtis Edwards had two pass break-ups and five tackles against the Ironmen.
Ridgewater College saw some strong individual performances in a loss to Itasca on Saturday. Tyrese Kwanna had nine catches for the Warriors while Bryant Walker punted six times, dropping three kicks inside his opponents twenty yardline. Defensively, Francis Dolce had a game-high 12 solo tackles, while both Jeff Zulma and Derek Benoit picked up sacks on the day for Ridgewater. |
