In a weekend which saw some teams begin to separate from the pack, several key performances lifted winning football teams across the Minnesota College Athletic Conference

The best of several great efforts have been tabbed as Players-of-the-Week in the MCAC Western Division of football for the week ending September, 22.

Player-of-the-Week, Defense

    

Tristin Murrin

Tristin Murrin had an amazing 16 total tackles against M State-Fergus Falls on Saturday, on his way to his third Defensive Player-of-the-Week honor of 2018. 

In addition to his 16 stops - 11 of the solo variety - the freshman from Virginia returned an interception 79 yards and had two additional pass break-ups on the day.  Combined with a tackle-for-loss, he helped lead the Pioneer defense in an effort in which they picked up their second consecutive Divisional victory to move to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the West. 

Murrin and Northland will face Ridgewater College at home on Saturday, September 29.  Kickoff is at 1:30pm.

Devoniare Clarington

Devoniare Clarington, from Northland Community & Technical College, has earned the MCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week for the Western Division. 

Clarington  - a sophomore from Miami, Florida - had seven catches for over 200 yards in Saturday's 36-14 Pioneer win over M State-Fergus Falls.  He accounted for two of the NCTC touchdowns and had a longest grab of 48 yards.  Clairington averaged almost 30 yards (29.6) per reception. 

Northland CTC will host Ridgewater in Thief River Falls on Saturday, September 29.  Kickoff is set for 1:30pm.

Dakota-Bottineau teammates Alex Knoebel and Leviticus Fielder share this week's Special Teams Player-of-the-Week honors for pair of impactful performances in a 24-6 DCB victory over Ridgewater College

Knoebel was a perfect 3-for-3 in PAT's for the 'Jacks and tacked on a 27-yard field goal in the second quarter.  On kickoffs, he averaged 46.8 yards per boot. 

Fielder returned two punts for a total of 91 yards, including a 74 yard touchdown run. He also had an interception and a solo tackle for DCB. 

Dakota College-Bottineau will travel to Worthington to face Minnesota West on Saturday, September 29. 

 

Notable Performances in the MCAC Western Division: 

'Jack quarterback Jackson Argoe was 13-for-30 passing with a touchdown on Saturday against Ridgewater.  He had 208 total yards with a longest completion of 34 yards.  Mason Cialona was one of Argoe's favorite targets, with four catches good for 77 yards.  Francisco Flores punted four times for 123 yards, dropping one kick inside the twenty-yard line. Thorton Cain had a touchdown and 4.7 average carry on the day in the Dakota backfield. Justin Michel had a sack, an interception and five total tackles. 

 

Wildcat running back Kingston Myles led all rushers in the contest with 110 yard total, including a touchdown run. Teammate Jay-Len Brown was right behind him with 106 yards on only 7 carries, averaging 15.1 yards a touch.  Alex Lombardi placed two of his three kicks inside the opponent 20, and had a longest kick of 56 yards. Habonimana Simon had two interceptions, and KeJuan Ethridge had one pick for NDSCS. Caleb Kennedy had two quarterback sacks among his six tackles; Tony Madison had seven stops.

 

Winston Sweeting threw for 160 yards and two touchdowns, with a longest-pass of 43 yards against Northland.  Lucas MaloneySterling Alexander and Mykhal Chavis combined for 145 yards on 9 catches. Robert Schultz punted five times for 207 yards, averaging 41.4 yards a boot with a long of 52 yards.  Devon Lucas had 77 yards in kickoff-return yardage, while Lewis Jackson and Curtis Edwards both had seven tackles each. 

 

Montrez Hearon had four catches for the BlueJays on Saturday, while Reginald Colson III combined two catches and three kickoff returns for 118 total yards. Quarterback Frank Cromer threw for 209 yards on a 17-for-34 effort. Beau Priegnitz was a standout defensively for Minnesota West, as he was credited with 14 tackles.  Jayvon Green also reached double digits with ten stops for MnWest. 

 

Craig Wells had a monster day for the Pioneers, going 18-for-29 and 449 yards in the air with four touchdowns against M State-Fergus Falls. He also carried ten times for 50 yards, with a longest run of 23 yards. Kalel Grant broke the century mark with 120 yard receiving, with a touchdown.   Justin Murray and Jonathon Pickett each had nine tackles for NCTC; Pickett's tally included a sack and a forced fumble.  Hunter Roller had two sacks among his three tackles for a loss. 

 

Warrior wideout Ethan Stark  had five catches for 94 total yards against Dakota College-Bottineau, while teammate Tyrese Kwanna had four grabs, including a touchdown catch.  Defensively, RC was led by Derek Benoit with 11 tackles, while Francis Dolce had 9 stops on the day, seven of which were solo tackles. Manlizi Arrington had 8 tackles for Ridgewater College.
