The NJCAA announced today that (RV) Northland Community & Technical College was invited to participate in the Red Grange Bowl, to be held Saturday, December 1 at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
Northland CTC (8-2 Overall / 5-0 West) won the MCAC State Championship on Sunday, defeating North Dakota State College of Science, 34-10. It was the second straight MCAC title for the Pioneers and positioned them for a return trip to the NJCAA football post-season. In 2017, NCTC (9-3 overall) participated in the opening game of the Graphic Edge Bowl, falling to Ellsworth (IA) Community College (4-8 Overall), 55-14.
In the MCAC State Championship contest, Northland quarterback Craig Wells was 26-of-36 for 258 yards against NDSCS, throwing for three touchdowns and one interception. Dwayne Taylor had six catches for 102 yards and three scores; Dylaan Lee had 67 yards on nine catches while Devonaire Clairington accounted 62 yards on five grabs and score. Lee also passed for a touchdown with an 18-yard completion.
On the ground, Jarel Youree ecliped the century mark with a 107 yards rushing, averaging over 15 yards a carry. Defenisvely, Tristin Murrin and Jonas Dorvil combined for 25 tackles, with Dovil getting six stops behind the line of scrimmage and picking up an interception. Jonathon Pickettt, Ryan Erickson and Dorvil all notched sacks against the Wildcats, while Thomas Smith had an Pioneer interception.
According to the NJCAA Football National Leaderboard, Wells leads the county in both passing yards per game (300.4) and touchdowns (34). Murrin is currently the NJCAA leader in tackles per contest, with 13 stops a game.
With the win and bowl invitiation, NCTC will face off against Nassau Community College, currently 7-3 on the year. Two of Nassau's losses came to nationally-ranked Monroe College (17-14) and undefeated Lackawanna (51-26). Also known as the Lions, NCC has won their last two contests on the road, beating Hocking College 40-12 and defeating Erie Community College, 28-7. As a team, Nassau is averaging 29.2 points per game; their highest output so far in 2018 was a 42-19 neutral site win over College of Dupage on October 13.

The Red Grange Bowl will kick-off at 1pm CST on Saturday, December 1. Gates will open at 11:30am and tickets are $10. Host institution College of DuPage notes that "All Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana."
