The third week of the 2019 football season in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference has produced the following MCAC Football Athletes-of-the-Week.   Adidas, the United States Marine Corps and Nicklasson Athletic Company sponsor the MCAC Athlete-of-the-Week awards, and proudly honor the following student-athletes for their performances this past week on behalf of their teams.

The Performance: 

Brandon Hokkanen  threw for four touchdowns in Itasca's 47-11 win over NDSCS...Passed for 309 total yards, the highest MCAC single-game total this year...Had a longest throw of 75 yards on the day

Shawn Smith

The Performance: 

The Norsemen shutout Dakota College 21-0 and Shawn Smith had 10 tackles on the day, 8 of them solo stops...Smith had 2.5 sacks, good for 22.5 yards-for-loss... the sophomore from Tarpon Spring, Florida had 3.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage for Mesabi Range

Josh Butler

Freshman

Cornerback

Roseville, MI

 

The Performance:

Josh Butler led the FDLTCC defense by intercepting a pass in the Thunder's own end zone and returning it 102 yards for a touchdown vs. Vermilion... Butler had four total tackles and added another interception to finish the day with a total of two picks, good for 110 Thunder return yards...the Thunder defense had five total interceptions in the game.

Braulio Arango-Aguilar

First Year

The Performance:

Braulio Arango-Aguilar connected on three Yellowjacket field goals in the win and he as also 2-for-2 on PAT's... accounted for 11 of Rochester's 33 points on the day...the first-year kicker from Brooklyn Park also used strong kickoff placement to negate the Northland return game
