After the first weekend of cross division contests between Northern and Southern squads within the Minnesota College Athletic Conference, two standouts emerged as Player-of-the-Week for their efforts. Additionally, a MCAC team was tabbed by the NJCAA in the most recent Division III Men's Basketball poll.

Against NJCAA Division II Gogebic early in the week, Demetrice Mitchell poured in 38 points and had 15 rebounds while shooting 18-25 from field. His hot hand included going 4-7 from 3 point range while adding two steals and and assist. Against MCAC foe Ridgewater College on Friday, Mitchell had another 18 points and eight rebounds. He also was 6-of-8 from the free throw line and had three steals. To complete his stellar week, against Minnesota West Mitchell had another 25 points and 14 rebounds in the Ironmen's final weekend contest. Mitchell and Vermilion will play Rochester CTC at home on Friday, December 8 in Ely.

Western Technical College sophomore Shawn Gerron has earned the MCAC Southern Division Player-of-the-Week for a pair of great games. On Friday, Gerron had 32 points and 8 rebounds against Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College in a 90-89 Cavalier victory. He then turned in a 22 point and four board performance in a loss to Central Lakes College on Saturday. Gerron and his WTC teammates next face Madison College on Wednesday, December 6 at 7:30pm in La Crosse. |
