The Northern Division men's basketball race came down to the final set of contests on Saturday, February 24 and the four Divisional representatives for both the North and South in the MCAC State Tournament have been decided.
The Rainy River Voyagers conclude the regular season at 12-2 and claim the Divisional hardware in the North. Vermilion Community College, 101-65 victors over Itasca, will take the second spot in the Divisional standings as they head to the state tournament. Central Lakes survived a stiff test from Hibbing Community College to emerge 81-79 winners, and claim the third playoff spot with the victory. The fourth and final MCAC State tournament berth falls to Mesabi Range College, as Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College lost at Rainy River, 97-82, eliminating any hope for a tie-breaker scenario.
Northland CTC also came in with a 12-2 Divisional record for the 2017-18 MCAC campaign but are ineligible to advance to MCAC/NJCAA regional post-season play.
In the Southern Division, the participants are set, with Rochester CTC, Anoka-Ramsey, Riverland and Minnesota West claiming the top four Southern Division places. Rochester CTC and Minnesota West moved their men's and women's double-headers scheduled for today to Sunday, February 25, due to weather conditions in Worthington today. Riverland concluded the 2018 regular season schedule with a 92-85 victory on the road in La Crosse, while Anoka-Ramsey dispatched Ridgewater, 101-72 at home.
With the home win, Anoka-Ramsey claims the regular season championship with a 12-2 Divisional ledger and the top seed in the South. Anoka-Ramsey will host the MCAC State Tournament on March 2-3-4, with eight teams vying for the Regional championship and bid to the NJCAA National Tournament.
At the conclusion of tomorrow's RCTC vs. Minnesota West contest, further information and final seeds for on the 2018 MCAC/NJCAA Region XIII men's tournament will be posted.
