MCAC Men's Basketball Quarterfinal  Recap

Rochester, Mn-

 Game One:  

Minnesota West def. Rainy River, 84-79                 

The 4th seeded Blue Jays got the tournament off to a strong start with an upset win over Rainy River, the top North seed. 

MnWest advances to play tomorrow at 1pm against CLC/RCTC. 

Rainy River concludes their season at 20-7 overall. 

Alex Brown led MnWest with 29 points and eight rebounds and six assistas in 38 minutes of action.  

DeShawn Pickford chipped in 16 points for the Blue Jays. 

For Rainy River, Davarius Wright   led the way with 21 points and six boards. Greg Barber came of the bench to add 14 points and eight rebounds. 

Game Two:  

       RCTC def. Central Lakes, 88-82 

                     

Two long standing MCAC head coaches met in the first round of the MCAC Tournament. A close game saw Rochester outlast Central Lakes, 85-82 and advance to a semi-final date with MnWest tomorrow. 

CLC closes out the 2017-18 campaign at 15-13 overall. 

 Keonte' Jenkins led Central Lakes with 28 points, four rebounds and a pair of steals.  Lowell Griggs contributed 14 points and nine rebounds to the Raider effort. 

For Rochester, Jumah'Ri Turner led the way with 24 points in 38 minutes of work. Tyree Caruthers had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. 

 

Game Three: 

Anoka-Ramsey vs. Mesabi Range 

ARCC def. Mesabi, 99-69

  

 

 

Top-seeded Anoka-Ramsey enjoyed the home court advantage to defeat Mesabi Range College, 99-69. 

With the win, the Golden Rams advance to tomorrow's semi-final at 3pm, where they will face Vermilion CC.

Mesabi Range wraps up their season at 5-20 overall.         

 For Mesabi Range, Bryce Hempel had 26 points to lead all scorers in the contest.

Anoka-Ramsey was led by Jackson Odegard off the bench with 22 points while kevin Schramm had 12 rebounds for the Rams.

Game Four: 

Vemilion vs. Riverland 

 VCC def. Riverland, 95-94

    

 

Vermilion Community College and veteran head coach Paul McDonald put together an amazing late rally to overcome Riverland Community College 95-94 in the forth and final MCAC quarterfinal contest.

With the win, VCC moves on to face Anoka-Ramsey in a 3pm semi-final contest tomorrow. 

Riverland concludes its season at 19-9 for the year.

 Blue Devil Robert Parker hit for 32 points and seven boards to pace Riverland on the day. Deandre Raggs grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds as well for RCC.

For Vermilion, Denario Jackson and Demetrice Mitchell both had 23 points, while Jackson dished out 13 assists in an unselfish effort.
