A pair of men's basketball standouts have earned Player-of-the-Week honors in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference for their play over the past Thanksgiving week and weekend.    Read on for the most recent men's basketball Player-of-Week selections, as well other top performances from around the MCAC.

St. Cloud Technical & Community College moved to 4-0 on the season with a 90-87 win over MCAC foe Central Lakes College.

Freshman guard Dillon Haider (Melrose, MN) had 24 points on the day, along with four rebounds, three assists and a steal for the Cyclones.  The free throw line was particularly kind to Haider, as he went 13-of-15 from the charity stripe. He was also 50% from behind the arc, going 3-for-6 from three point land.

SCTCC will take their 4-0 record into a Friday, November 30 match-up with Mesabi Range College; tip-off is set for 7:45pm.

Little Falls, MN

Central Lakes College sophomore  TJ Kornbaum  (Little Falls, MN) had a double-double for the Raiders this past week in a hard-fought 90-87 loss to SCTCC. 

He hit three 3-pointers in six attempts while hitting for 18 overall.  He also grabbed 10 rebounds and contributed a pair of blocks. 

Central Lakes and Kornbaum will face Gogebic Community College on Friday, November 30. The contest is scheduled to tip off at 7:30pm.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

                   

 

Notable Performances Around the MCAC:

SCTCC's moved to 4-0 on the season with a pair wins last week; beating St. John's JV 99-77 and outlasting Central Lakes, 90-87.    Paul Coleman came off the bench to score 23 points against Central Lakes and  Dillon Haider led the squad with 24, including a 13-of-15 performance from the foul line.  In the win over St. John's earlier in the week, Keshawn Sutton had 16 points,  Jazz Boker grabbed 11 boards and Coleman had another solid outing with 16 points and 8 assists. 

Central Lakes College suffered their first loss of the season on the road at SCTCC, 90-87, but  Al-Jureau Ray had 19 points and teammate TJ Kornbaum chipped in 18 points and ten rebounds against the Cyclones.

Northland Community & Technical College dispatched Mayville State's JV team 76-58 in their only contest of the week.    Bakri Gubara led the way for the Pioneers with 21 points and Z'Mari Minter  had 14 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists, as well as two blocks.  John Brooks  also had an 18-point effort for Northland.

Western Technical College swept a pair of games over UW-system colleges this past weekend, dropping UW-Sheboygan 84-63 and UW-Fox Valley 99-62.  Joshua Brownlee  had 51 total points across the two games and Justen Kidd averaged six assists a game.    Andrew Scott  had 10 boards to lead WTC in their win over UW-Fox Valley.         

Rochester CTC fall to Madison College 94-62 on Tuesday, November 20; Kong Kong had 10 points and six boards off the bench for the Yellowjackets and Roy Womack was the lone RCTC starter to reach double-digits with 10 points.  Ben Opsahl dished out five assists for Rochester.

Hibbing Community College picked up a win and a loss at the Gogebic Community College Lindquist Classic.  In a 66-57 win over the host GCC, Daniel Warren had 17 points and ten rebounds, while Cardinal teammate David Faitha had four steals and 10 points.

Anoka Ramsey Community College fell to NJCAA Division II program Bryant & Stratton College,  71-70.    Steven Colon came off the bench in the game to lead the Golden Rams in the game with 17 points.  Justin Castro had 12 points, including a 4-of-5 effort from the foul line.     

Riverland Community College split over the past week, beating Luther College's JV team 70-67 but falling to Little Priest Tribal College, 73-62.  DeAndre Smith had 14 points and 11 boards, along with four steals in the win over Luther.  Nyagoa Obany led Riverland with 15 points against LPTC while Deandre Raggs had 11 boards in the contest.

Vermilion Community College split a pair of games this past weekend, defeating Gogebic CC 65-44 and losing to Bay (MI) College, 84-67.   David Monell had 32 points over the two games and Devontaye Spates hit for 11 points in both contests and had a team high 12 boards in the GCC game.  Ironman teammate Reggie Rogers averaged eight points a game over the weekend.

Rainy River Community College lost two games on the road in Nebraska, falling to Trinidad State Junior College 94-90 and Western Nebraska CC, 104-83.  

Minnesota West CTC defeated Mt. Marty's JV team 88-72 and fell to Iowa Lakes Community College, 93-89. Against Mt. Mary, Deshawn Pickford tallied 24 points and grabbed four rebounds, and fellow BlueJay  Jaimon Cheeks contributed 13.

In their only action of the week, Ridgewater College downed the JV team of Crown College, 105-74.  Niko Oliver led the way with 16 points and seven rebounds, and he also had four assists and four steals in a balanced effort.  Malik Gandy  had 11 points off the bench while Travis Visser contributed 13 points by going 6-of-7 from the field.

Lake Superior College, itasca Community College, Mesabi Range College, M State-Fergus Falls,  Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College were idle this past week.
