Detroit Country Club - The Minnesota State - Fergus Falls mens golf team finished up the fall portion of their season with a hard fought 309-312 dual meet win versus Valley City State on Monday.  The Spartans were lead by medalist Wyatt Blomseth who fired a one over par 72 to narrowly win over VCSU's Rory Gentzkow (73).  Minnesota State's scores were:

M State:

Wyatt Blomseth 72 (Medalist)
Hunter Burnside 79
Grant Inniger 79
Carter Justesen 79
Drew Schwann 81

Blomseth and Gentzkow battled back and forth all day with Blomseth pouring in a critical 5 foot downhill put on the 18th hole to say par and secure the individual win.  In the women's competition MN State's Sara Buter shot a 116.  The Spartans are now off for the remiander of the fall term and will return for the spring championship ortion of the season.  The Region XIII Champonship and the NJCAA Golf Championships will both be held once the snow clears.

Coach Jason Retzlaff said, "It was an enjoyable and competitive day of golf as it went down to the wire in both team and individual contests. Valley City played very well today and we were fortunate to come out on top.  Wyatt Blomseth played some very steady golf for us and really led us.  It was fun watching he and Rory Gentzkow (VCSU) go head to head down the stretch playing for medalist honors. The Vall brothers also played great golf for us today as well."

"This has been a tremendous group to coach and be with this fall.  They are very good players but even better young men and women to work with on a daily basis.  We look forward to coming back in the Spring to compete for a National Tournament trip."
