The Lake Superior College Icehawks took their show on the road last week to Century College in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, for a key NJCAA regional men's soccer match. The squad from Duluth could only find the back of the net once, but once was enough, due to the goalkeeping of Michael Petoletti, whose shutout paved the path of success for Lake Superior.
Century had a total of 17 shots in the contest, compared to 11 for Lake Superior, but Petoletti turned aside all the on-frame efforts that came his way. Petoletti and his defense had to contend with four Century corner kicks on the day but all parties withstood the offense and allowed for Lake Superior's second straight September win.
Lake Superior is off until Wednesday, October 4th when they host NJCAA Division II Dakota County Technical College, a squad which defeated them 3-1 earlier this fall. Prior to the NJCAA Region XIII tournament in mid-October, Petoletti and the rest of LSC will also face MCAC foe Riverland Community College at home (10/07) and will host a rematch with Century College on Sunday, October 15th.
