Co-Pitchers of the Week Named in MCAC South Softball

Rochester, Mn-

Over the course of an important stretch in the Southern Division of Minnesota College Athletic Conference schedule, several student-athletes stepped up in an effort to help lead their teams towards the post-season.

From a week's worth of great pitching performances, two student-athletes stood out even further for their squads, leading to the awarding of Co-Pitcher of the Week honors for April 24-29.

St. Cloud Technical and Community College pitcher Shania Kinghorn was pretty tough to hit last week; in fact, she was 'un-hit-able' in a key showdown with rival and 7th-ranked Anoka Ramsey Community College.  Kinghorn tossed a no-hit, no-run outing in a 1-0 pitchers dual on Tuesday, April 25th against the Golden Rams.  She followed that up with a three-hit, complete game shutout of Minnesota State Fergus Fall three days later in a 3-0 victory over the Spartans, who are receiving votes nationally in the most recent NJCAA poll. Kinghorn's efficient stat line was impressive: 2 wins, 14 innings pitched, 3 hits, 2 walks, and zero runs against, with 14 strikeouts for good measure.

Minnesota State hurler Tarryn Justeson went to work early and often over the past week, picking up four important wins for the Spartans.  Justeston threw 24 innings total for M-State, and racked up 30 strikeouts along the way - opponents scored only three earned runs total over the course of her four wins.  Behind Justeson's arm, the Spartan's rattled off identical 4-1 wins over Ridgewater College on April 25 and went on to defeat Riverland Community College 15-1 and 10-2 on April 28.
