MCAC softball athletes receive All-American honors

Rochester--

The Southern Division of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference saw some top-flight NJCAA softball action this past season, with Anoka-Ramsey Community College and M-State seeking to topple St. Cloud Technical and Community College as the best squad in the southern realm of the MCAC.

The National Junior College Athletic Association acknowledged that quality of play recently, as they named four MCAC athletes to the 2017 NJCAA All-American teams.

For MCAC south champion and national tournament participant, St. Cloud Technical and Community College, Chloe Callahan was clutch all year, turning in one of the top offensive performances in league, region and national play.  Callahan hit an amazing .500 with a .685 slugging percentage over the course of 146 at-bats in 2017.   Equally dominant from the pitching circle was fellow Cyclone, Shania Kinghorn.  The sophomore hurler finished the year 19 - 4, with a 1.91 ERA and 156 strikeouts. Not surprisingly, both SCTCC athletes earned All-MCAC and All-Region honors along the way this past season.  Callahan was named to the NJCAA First Team, while Kinghorn earned a spot on the NJCAA  Second Team.

Anoka-Ramsey Community College played one of the toughest schedules around, and those battles paid off for the Golden Rams, with two ARCC athletes garnering All-American status.  Pitcher Quincy Gross was at times unhittable for Anoka Ramsey, and it showed in her 13 - 6 record,  as well as in notching two key saves.   Gross struck out an average of 11.87 batters an outing and rival MCAC hitters will be happy to see the sophomore move on from Anoka. Ashton Prachar was the only infielder from the Minnesota College Athletic Conference to reach All-American status in 2017.   Hitting at a .406 clip and turning in a very solid defensive performance all year was key to her recognition at both the Conference and National level.
