MCAC Softball Weekly Honors

Several softball teams from across the Minnesota College Athetic Conference were able to find suitable playing conditions this past week, producing several strong performances in the circle and at the plate.  Read on for the top picks from a strong crop of MCAC softball nominees for the week ending Sunday, April 7, 2019.

MCAC Southern Division

Pitcher & Player-of-the-Week

            Fargo, ND                            Sauk Rapids, MN

Regan Jastram & Sam Patton put in overtime this past weekend to help St. Cloud Technical & Community College to a 4-0 record as the RCTC Crossover Tournament in Rochester. Together, they claim Co-Pitchers-of-the-Week in the Southern Division

Jastram battled Itasca's Taylor Shepard in a nine-inning affair in which she conceded no earned runs and scattered nine hits. SCTCC dealt ICC a 5-4 setback. The sophomore from Fargo from also claimed a 12-4 win over NJCAA Division II Gogebic Community College, striking out four and scattering eight GCC hits. 

Patton (Sauk Rapids, MN) earned a 9-1 win over Northland and a 12-2 triumph over Rainy River at the RCTC Crossover Touranment. Combined in the two games, Patton faced 48 batters, striking out nine and giving up only one earned run on the weekend. 

SCTCC is scheduled to play next on Tuesday, April 9 when they face Anoka-Ramsey Community College.

Abi Folkert

Kasson, MN

Abi Folkert, a sophomore at Rochester Community & Technical College from Kasson, Minnesota  has earned the Southern Division Player-of-the-Week honor for the week ending on Sunday, April 7. 

Folkert played a major role in the 4-1 Yellowjacket performance at the RCTC Crossover Tournament this past weekend as Rochester moved their record to 7-4 overall. Folkert collected seven hits - including a double and a triple - and scored five runs. She drove in seven RBI's on the weekend for RCTC. 

Rochester Community & Technical College is next scheduled to play on Tuesday, April 9 when they take on Riverland Community College.

Alicia Tresco

Royalton, MN

 

Alicia Tresco picked up a win forItasca Community College on the way to being named MCAC Northern Division Pitcher-of-the-Week for the week ending Sunday, April 7. 

Tresco led ICC to a 9-3 victory over Northland at the RCTC Crossover Tournament this past weekend. The sophomore from Royalton, Minnesota, scattered nine hits over seven innings of work, striking out a pair of Pioneers along the way. 

With the win, ICC heads into MCAC Northern Division play with a double-header at Rainy River on Saturday, April 13. 

 

 

Talyn McClaflin

Big Lake, MN

Itasca Community College standout  Talyn McClaflin has been named the MCAC Northern Division Player-of-the-Week for the week ending Sunday, April 7. 

McClaflin had three home runs for Itasca at the RCTC Crossover Tournament.  The sophomore from Big Lake, Minnesota hit for a .625 average across the four games, going 10-for-16 at the plate.  She cracked two doubles and drove in 11 RBI's for the Vikings while also scoring nine runs herself. The 2018 All-America selection also turned in a solid defensive effort at third base as ICC defeated Northland and Ridgwater, while losing two one-run contests to SCTCC and Anoka-Ramsey.

Itasca will open up MCAC Northern Division play with a double-header at Rainy River Community College on Saturday, April 13.
