Pioneers and Lady Jays Claim Weekly Awards to Open 2018

A pair of women's basketball student-athletes in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference started 2018 much where they left off in 2017; delivering dominating performances for their teams and helping their squads gear up for Divisional contests which begin this week. 

Megan Swedberg, a center for the fourth-ranked Northland Community & Technical College and Andrea Hinkeldey of Minnesota West CTC both turned in impressive performances for the week ending on January 6, and have been named MCAC Northern Division and Southern Division Players-of-the-Week for their efforts.

Megan Swedberg- a sophomore center from Ogema, Minnesota - helped lead #4 Northland CTC to 2-1 record for the opening week of 2018, as the Pioneers took on three NJCAA Division II opponents. 

Swedberg averaged 26 points per game, 13 boards a contest and had three blocked shots. She shot 68.9% from the field and was 17-of-24 from the free throw line. 

Swedberg and Northland will play Itasca on Saturday, January 13 to open Northern Division play.

  Minnesota West CTC 

                       

Sophomore Andrea Hinkeldey  helped her Minnesota West CTC squad get off to a great start to begin the New Year- the Lady Jays went 3-0 last week and Hinkeldey played a major role. 

Hinkeldey shot 24-of-41 from the field and was 15-of-18 from the charity stripe for MnWest. She also had 3.3 assists over the three games and collected three steals and two blocks. 

Minnesota West will open Southern Division action against Riverland CC on January 10 in Austin, Minnesota.
