Pioneeers Advance; In the hunt for National Championship

Head coach Shannon Nelson and her Northland Community & Technical College women's basketball squad remain in contention for the 2018 NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball national championship, as they dispatched Montgomery 76-58 in first round action.

Brooke Heggie led Northland and all scorers in Thursday's contest, notching 22 points on 11-of-13 shooting.  She also had an impressive 15 rebounds to dominate the paint while also dishing out six assists.  Emily Anderson had 16 points, six assists and a steal against Montgomery.  Megan Swedberg had seven boards and 12 points on the day. 

NCTC will face #1 seed and host, Rock Valley College. Rock Valley survived an upset bid from #8 seed Rowan-Gloucester to prevail 64-59 on Thursday. 

Against Montgomery, Northland led at the half, 36-18 and never looked back as they sent the MCC squad to the consolation round and advance to today's semi-final against RVC. 

The Pioneer program is making it's eighth National Championship tournament appearance in nine seasons. In 2013-14,  NCTC won the NJCAA Division III National Championship, finishing the season with an almost-perfect 27-1 mark.
