A pair of women's basketball standouts have earned Player-of-the-Week honors in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference.   MCAC hoops action begins to pick up this week, with over 20 games involving MCAC programs on the upcoming schedule.

MCAC SOUTHERN DIVISION

Mikayla Homola

Blaine, MN

Anoka-Ramsey Community College guard Mikayla Homola looked to be ready to go for a great sophomore season as her Golden Ram team hosted a pair of NJCAA programs in their season opening tournament of 2018-19. 

Playing in a pair of games against Madison College and Gogebic Community CollegeHomola lead Anoka-Ramsey to two wins, collecting 58 points along the way.  She also had ten steals over the course of the two games, while also dishing out three assists and grabbing two rebounds. She was 11-of-12 from the foul line and hit five three-pointers.  Overall, the Osseo High School product was 21-of-41 from the field across both games. 

The Golden Rams are back in action on Friday, November 16, when they travel to the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn to face the Chapparrals. 

 

 

 

 

 

MCAC NORTHERN DIVISION

Brainerd, MN

In a 66-62 Central Lakes College win over the JV team of Bethel University,  Liz Anderson put together a great night shooting the basketball. 

The Raiders sophomore had 24 points, going 7-of-10 from the floor and a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line.  She also dished out five assists and grabbed seven rebounds. She hit two of the three 3-pointers she attempted for CLC in the season-opening victory.

Central Lakes is back in action on Friday, November 16 when they travel to M State-Fergus Falls for a 5:30pm tipoff. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

                         

 

 

 

Notable Performances Around the Minnesota College Athletic Conference: 

Ridgewater College: had just one contest this past week, falling to Sisseton Wahpeton,  93-78.  Kendra Miller had 22 points and three steals to help the Warriors cause and Taylor Rose came off the bench to score 28 points and grab 11 rebounds.  Rose was 4-of-9 from three point territory on the night. 

St. Cloud Technical & Community College: Kiara Coops led SCTCC in scoring in the first two games of the season, notching 27 in a loss to Gogebic Community College and hitting for 17 against Madison College. Coops also had a team-high 15 rebounds in the 68-44 loss to Madison.  Maria Stokes had 11 blocked shots across the two games for the Cyclones.  Shania Nahring had five assists, four steals and four rebounds against GCC. 

Central Lakes beat Bethel's JV team 66-62 in their only outing of the week; Naomi Lane had 18 points and 12 boards while Raider teammate Kelsie Weite distributed four assists, had a blocked shot and scored 11 points.   Tiffany Johnson was two-for-two in free throws and grabbed five rebounds off the bench for CLC.

Abby Howe scored 22 points in a Anoka-Ramsey 89-52 win over Madison College and grabbed six rebounds. She was 4-of-6 from behind the arc in the contest. Adaya Sandifer had 13 assists across the two ARCC wins over Madison and Gogebic Community College.  MacKenna Brown came off the bench to score ten points against GCC and Chyanne Nickens chipped in 11 points as well. 

Rochester Community & Technical College went 1-1 to open the 2018-19 season, beating Ellsworth Community College 80-73 but falling to NIACC, 126-86.  Grace Riley had 40 points in the two contests and grabbed 15 rebounds.  She accumulated seven assists in between the two games, while Arianna Owens scored 18 points against ECC and had sever rebounds in the NIACC contest.  Abby Bauer dished out six assists for RCTC in the contest and grabbed nine rebounds. Bauer was also five-of-five from the charity stripe. 

Minnesota West CTC lost to Little Priest Tribal College 98-83, but were led in scoring by Emily Shaffer and Lexie Ramsey, who had 20 and 19 points on the night. Shaffer also grabbed 14 rebounds, while Avery Van Roekel came off the bench to get 10 boards and 19 points.  She was 13-of-14 from the free throw line.  In a 78-42 loss to Northwestern's JV team, Shaffer again led the LadyJays with 18 points. MnWest picked up their first victory of 2018-19, behind an 18-point effort by Emily Schroer and a 12 rebound/15 point outing from Emily Shaffer.  M'Kayla Mike dished out eight assists and had five steals in the win.
