Rochester, MN-

The 2018-19 women's basketball season concluded today with the Western Technical College Cavaliers falling to North Country Community College 72-68 in the third-place game of the NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championships.

Despite the loss, Western Technical College concludes the year having accomplished the best season in the program's history, finishing at 21-7 overall.  Western Tech joined the Minnesota College Athletic Conference in 2013 and the 2018-19 season success marks their first Conference championship, first Region title and first trip to the NJCAA tournament.  The Cavaliers were unbeaten 12-0 in MCAC Southern Division action.  Along the way Western Tech claimed wins over several nationally ranked NJCAA Division III programs including Anoka-Ramsey Community College, Rainy River Community College and Hibbing Community College.

As a team, Western Tech rolled one of the most balanced line-ups in NJCAA Division III basketball this year; WTC was particularly adept on the defensive end of the floor, holding five teams to under 50 points during the regular season. The Cavaliers proved to have significant depth at every position as WTC often gave significant minutes to up to 12 players in a contest.

MCAC Southern Division Coach-of-the-Year Chad Dull's team will bid farewell to several standout sophomores who conclude their Cavalier careers, including Casey Moger, Kerrigan Lyga and Krysten Lawver, among others Western Tech had several players tabbed for All-Division, All-State and related accolades during their regular season and post-season competitions. The NJCAA All-America selections are made by the NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Committee and will be named in early April; be sure to follow @NJCAABasketball for the most up-to-date information on end-of-season honors.
