The women's basketball head coaches from the Southern Division of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference have tabbed Anoka-Ramsey Community College as the team to beat when the MCAC season gets underway later this month.

The Golden Rams and head coach David DeWitt picked up five of a possible six first-place nods, with Western Technical College grabbing one as well.  Overall, the Minnesota West Lady Jays, under veteran head coach Rosalie Hayenga-Hostikka, claimed second place in the pre-season poll.  Rounding out the poll places were Western Technical College, Ridgewater College, St. Cloud Technical & Community College and Riverland Community College.

Last season, Western Technical College women's basketball was honored by the NJCAA as a 2018-19 Academic Team of the Year in women's hoops for earning the top team GPA in all of NJCAA women's basketball. The Cavaliers registered a 3.72 in classroom, while also earning the first-ever NJCAA National Championships appearance in any sport for WTC.

Anoka-Ramsey will have the task of replacing two standouts who have moved on to four-year college programs in the past two years; NJCAA All-America Mikayla Homola now suits up for Missouri Valley College and Amanda Lindsay competes for St. Cloud State University this fall in her senior season.

Three Southern Division programs will feature new faces on the sidelines this year, as Brent Thill (Western Tech), Charles Thompson (SCTCC) and Andrew Kaiser (Riverland) take up the clipboard for their resprective programs.

Also, stay posted for MCAC Men's and Women's Basketball 2019-20 Season Previews available later this week, as well as coaches polls in the other three MCAC Divisions.
