Northland Set to Host Region XIIIB WBB Tournament

Winona, MN-

Northland Community & Technical College defeated Lake Superior College 87-37 today in Thief River Falls, giving the Pioneers the hosting rights for the 2019-20 NJCAA Region XIIIB Women's Basketball tournament.

Northland will host #2 Rainy River Community College, the Northern Division co-champion, as well as #3 Hibbing Community College and #4 Central Lakes College to round out the field.

Northland and Rainy River split in the regular season, with each squad winning at home; RRCC defeated NCTC 64-41 in International Falls in January and the Pioneers returned the favor 77-53 on Wednesday, February 12.   Northland won the coin flip to host the tournament and claim the #1 seed.

Hibbing Community College claims the #3 seed with a 77-50 win over Itasca today in Grand Rapids.  The Cardinals won the Region XIIIB Tournament in 2018-19 and first-year head coach Kasey Palmer leads HCC back to the post-season and a chance to defend their title.

Central Lakes is making it's second-straight tournament trip under Brian Voigt, also in his second year on the bench and will be the #4 seed.

Stay tuned for more Region tournament information as Northland Community & Technical College prepares to host the Voyaguers, Cardinals and Raiders on Saturday, February 29 and Sunday, March 1, 2020 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota.
