Minnesota West Wrestling now led by Cowdin

Rochester, MN-

With the retirement of long-time Minnesota West wrestling coach Bob Purcell, the Bluejay program will head into 2017-18 with a new leader at the helm.  The school did not have to look far to find a strong successor, as alum and former assistant coach Bryan Cowdin was tapped in May to step into the head coach role in Worthington.

A four-time state qualifer while competing at Worthington High School, Cowdin wrestled his way to two state crowns over his career and a Wrestling USA Magazine scholastic All-American honor in 2001.

Cowdin also competed for Minnesota West at the collegiate level, where he garnered All-American and Outstanding Wrestler awards.  His success as a Bluejay provided a springboard to South Dakota State, where he finished his college career as a Jackrabbit.

Minnesota West and the rest of the MCAC wrestling programs will return to the mats beginning next November.  The NJCAA recently announced that Council Bluffs, Iowa will again host the national meet.  The national championships will run in late February, 2018.
