MCAC Wrestlers Compete in District Tournament

The 2018-19 Minnesota College Athletic Conference Wrestling season concluded recently at the North District Tournament, hosted by Minnesota West CTC in Worthington, Minnesota.  At the event, several student-athletes earned they way to the 2018-19 NJCAA Wrestling National Championships, to be held at the Mid-America Center, Council Bluffs, Iowa on March 1-2.

In the final team standings, nationally ranked No. 8 Rochester Community & Technical College finished as the overall team champion with 80.5 total points, with five Yellowjackets securing a first place medal at their division.  Itasca Community College earned second place at a team score of 57.0 while Northland Community & Technical College (41.0) edged out Minnesota West CTC (35.0) for third and fourth place, respectively.  Ridgewater College finished in fifth place at 28.0 total points.

Twenty individual student-athletes representing all five member colleges punched their ticket to the 2018-19 NJCAA Wrestling National Championships.  The 157 lb. division was particularly deep in the MCAC, with four wrestlers advancing to Iowa;Isaac Haman (RCTC), Adam Rients (MnWest), Cody Sawyer (Itasca) and Jacob Revier (Ridgewater) all will compete in Council Bluffs.  Also, two nationally-ranked RCTC wrestlers, Shane Siewert and Alex LaPierre, advanced on to Nationals on the strength of first place finishes at the 174 (Siewert) and 184 (LaPierre) weight divisions in the District competition.
