MCAC Volleyball Week 2: Northern Division Players of the Week

Rochester, Mn-

The Labor Day weekend offered several volleyball teams around the Minnesota College Athletic Conference the chance to reset and evaluate their preseason camps and early season matches, while resting up for the MCAC slate.  A handful of teams used the weekend to take on some non-Conference opponents to stay sharp, as several mid-September Divisional contests loom around the corner.  A select few athletes put in some extra work in and around Labor Day, and for their efforts, were rewarded with Week 2, Players-of-the-Week honors.

MCAC North Setter-of-the-Week:

Patty Overbye put together another strong week helping her Mesabi Range College teammates, logging in 47 set assists and hitting a perfect 100% in service against Rainy River last week.  That strong setting performance, along with her 5 digs in the 3-1 MRC victory, have allowed Overbye to take home her second consecutive Setter-of-the-Week in the Northern Division.  The freshman from Mt. Iron, Minnesota will be a key factor in the upcoming matches for Mesabi Range, as they take on Central Lakes, Northland CTC and Vermilion over the next several days.

MCAC North Defensive Player-of-the-Week:

Kahlen Manthey of Central Lakes College has earned the Week 2 Defensive Player-of-the-Week in the Northern Division.  The libero from Sauk Rapids High School had 36 digs and picked up 10 aces in the four matches played by the Raiders this past week.  Manthey and her CLC teammates head into an important few weeks of matches, with road contests against Mesabi Range College and Vermilion Community College.

MCAC North Hitter-of-the-Week:

Tori Johnson of Mesabi Range College, an outside hitter, put together a good offensive week for the Lady Norse.  Johnson hit at a .286 percentage, tallied 11 kills in the MRC North, 3-1 victory over Rainy River.  Additionally, Tori had 4 digs, a block and 2 service aces on the day for Coach Jojo Scott's squad. Tori Johnson is the MCAC North Week 2 Hitter-of-the-Week.

MCAC North All-Around Player-of-the-Week:

At Central Lakes College, Henning native,  Paige Wallevand  put together one of the best comprehensive performances in the MCAC North last week, and for her efforts, has been tabbed the MCAC Northern Division All-Around Player-of-the-Week.  Wallevand, served 11 aces, registered 32 kills while hitting at a .366 clip.  She also dished out 54 assists, collected 7 digs and rose for 8 blocks, as the Raiders went 1-1 in their home triad match.  Central Lakes fell to North Dakota State College of Science 3-1, but rebounded to defeat St. Cloud Technical and Community College, 3-1.
