MCAC Volleyball Week 3: Southern Division Players-of-the-Week

MCAC Volleyball Week 3: Southern Division Players-of-the-Week

Rochester, Mn-

Some of the first head-to-head action between the perennial powers in the Southern Division of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference ranks occurred between September 4th and September 10th.  Several MCAC volleyball student-athletes put together strong performances on behalf of their teams, and four Southern standouts have been tabbed Players-of-the-Week in their respective roles. Also available beginning this week is the MCAC  'Stats Leaders' icon on Conference sport homepage.  In the Stats Leaders section, MCAC student-athletes are listed in the same categories as found within the NJCAA national database.

MCAC South, Hitter of the Week:

Unbeaten in MCAC play, nationally-ranked Ridgewater College has it's eyes on another Southern Division championship in 2017. If they complete their task, outside hitter Kiana Johnson will likely be an important part of that success. The sophomore outside hitter from Hector, Minnesota had a strong outing in a key match against M State this past week, earning MCAC South, Hitter-of-the-Week in the process.  Johnson had 10 kills, 8 digs and an ace against the nationally-ranked Spartans, good for a .474 hitting efficiency. The 5'11"  Johnson and her Warrior team will take on the SCTCC Cyclones this week in Southern Division action.

MCAC South, Setter of the Week:

Kalli Mathiasen, a setter for the St. Cloud Technical and Community College Cyclone volleyball team has earned Week 3,  Setter-of-the-Week honors in the Southern Division of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference. Mathiasen, a St. Cloud Apollo product, was instrumental in her side claiming two Conference victories over the past week.  She dished out 64 set assists, averaging 9.14 per set for Coach Heidi Smith's squad, along with collecting 16 digs and 6 service aces.  Mathiasen is sitting 3rd in the NJCAA in the ''overall set assists' category. SCTCC faces an important week ahead, with Conference matches against Ridgewater College and Western Technical College, and tournament play in Wilmar over the weekend.

MCAC South, Defensive Player of the Week:

Ridgewater College faced one of it's Divisional foes seeking to displace it as the top team in the South when they faced off against M State last week.  Jamie Goblirsch, of Wabasso, Minnesota, put together a strong outing in the match, picking up 15 digs, 3 set assists and a kill against the Spartans.  The sophomore libero is a key cog in the Ridgewater wheel and a major part of their 8-2 overall and 3-0 Conference mark.  Goblirsch and her Warrior squad will face off against another rising power in Southern Division, when they square up to face St. Cloud Technical and Community College on Wednesday, September 13th, in St. Cloud. Jamie Goblirsch is the MCAC Southern Division Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.

MCAC South, All-Around Player-of-the-Week:

Kalie Jergens, a sophomore at St. Cloud Technical and Community College has earned the MCAC Southern Division Week 3, All-Around Player-of-the-Week for her efforts in two Cyclone victories.  Jergens' 27 kills and 5 service aces, along with 25 digs and 4 blocks were a strong overall effort as SCTCC looks to build on their NJCAA national ranking this week.  The Becker, Minnesota product is ranked nationally in the 'Overall Kills' category; she and her team will take Ridgewater College, Wednesday, September 13th at home.
