The most recently NJCAA national volleyball poll features several programs from the Minnesota College Athletic Conference including a Top 10 debut. With critical matches in both the Northern and Southern Divisions over the course of September 11-17, more movement in the national poll and within MCAC standings is highly likely.
On the national stage, perennial power Ridgewater College maintained it's grip on the #3 spot, behind only two other Midwestern programs, Harper (IL) and Madison (WI). St. Cloud Technical and Community College moved up two slots to #8; the Cyclones have a 8-2 record overall and are 3-0 in the Southern Division. Northern Division squad Northland Community and Technical College broke into the Top 10 in the 9.12.17 rankings, with a 4-0 record to start their year. The full NJCAA poll is available at this link.
Within the MCAC so far this week, some important results are beginning to shape the Divisional playoff race. Central Lakes downed NCTC in a 5 set marathon, 3-2 in Brainerd on Wednesday night. In the South, St. Cloud Technical and Community College took a 3-1 victory at home against Ridgewater. By virtue of their win, SCTCC moves into first place in the South at 3-0 in Conference play, 9-2 overall. Other key results from Conference play on Wednesday include Itasca winning 3-0 over Fond du Lac, Mesabi Range a 3-0 victor over Vermilion and RCTC downing Western Technical College in straight sets, 3-0. M State, currently third in the Southern Division, picked up a 3-0 win over Anoka-Ramsey.
In upcoming matches this week, Rochester Community & Technical College will host the Toppers Pizza/Yellowjacket Invitational which features several Minnesota College Athletic Conference teams; Northland CTC, Riverland, Hibbing Community College and Central Lakes will all travel to the Med City to join RCTC and several other regional powers for some top-flight, NJCAA volleyball action. In the Iron Range, Mesabi Range College with host Gogebic Community College and Dakota County Technical College in a Triangular match on Friday, September 15th. Ridgewater College will face Iowa Lakes Community College, Jamestown JV and Northeast Community College over the weekend, while Conference play will feature St. Cloud Technical & Community College traveling to Western Technical College and Itasca CC going to Rainy River CC. Western Tech will also tackle Milwaukee Area Technical College on Saturday. Minnesota West, Anoka-Ramsey, M State, Vermilion and Fond du Lac are all off this weekend.
