MCAC Volleyball Week 4 Players-of-the-Week: Northern Division

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference has named the MCAC Volleyball Week 4 Players-of-the-Week in the Northern Division.  

 

MCAC North Hitter-of-the-Week: 

 

Baylee Hilfers, of Mesabi Range College, turned in a strong performance against several different opponents in a busy week-long stretch for the Lady Norse.    The sophomore from Eveleth/Gilbert HS helped lead her team in action against both a MCAC squad and a pair of NJCAA Division II regional opponents in the MRC Triangular Invitational. Hilfers currently sits third in the Northern Division in Kills and fourth in Total Attacks.  Mesabi Range plays Hibbing, Itasca and Fond du Lac this week. 

 

MCAC North Setter-of-the-Week: 

The Rainy River Community College Voyagers put together a busy week on the volleyball court, taking on two MCAC North opponents and matches in the course of three days last week.  Karli Phillips was key in the strong performance for RRCC, and has earned Setter-of-the-Week honors in the Northern Division for her efforts. Combined in the MCAC North contests, Phillips had 15 total kills, over 50 set assists and more than 30 digs. The Camrose, Alberta native and her Rainy River teammates will face Northland CTC on Friday, September 22nd in Thief River Falls. 

 

MCAC North Defensive Player-of-the-Week: 

 

Carmen Bergstedt, of Itasca Community College, has earned the MCAC North Defensive Player-of-the-Week award.  The Vikings rebounded from a 3-2 loss to Hibbing Community College in Week 3 to go 3-0 against fellow MCAC teams, beating ARCC (3-0), Fond du Lac (3-0) and Rainy River (3-2) in Week 4.  Bergstedt had 21 digs against Anoka Ramsey, 18 digs against FDL and 31 in the five-set contest against Rainy River.  Bergstedt, a sophomore from Hermantown, Mn, lines up as a L/DS for Itasca Community College.  The MCAC Northern Division slate holds Central Lakes, Mesabi Range and Vermilion this week for ICC.  

 

MCAC North All-Around Player-of-the-Week: 

 

The MCAC Volleyball Week 4 All Around Player-of-the-Week has been awarded to Paige Wallevand of Central Lakes College.  The Henning,  Minnesota freshman earns the nod for the honor in turning in strong statistical performances for her Raider squad across a trio of matches against MCAC opponents,  as well two nationally ranked squads in the form of Harper Community College and Madison College in tournament play.   CLC are set to play Itasca, Hibbing and Rainy River in key MCAC North matchups in the coming week.  Currently, Wallevand and her squad are 4-0 in the Northern Division and 10-5 overall in 2017.
