When volleyball teams across the Minnesota College Athletic Conference take to the courts later this month, some new faces will be patrolling the sidelines for teams across the state.
Long-time Mesabi Range College volleyball coach and athletic director JoJo Scott recently announced she is stepping down from MRC to accept the athletic director position at Eveleth-Gilbert High School. Scott's 13 season brought significant success to the Lady Norse program, both on the court and in the community, as MRC hosted several summer volleyball camps and clinics. The Norse also produced several All-America and Academic All-America athletes during Scott's tenure.
Former Hibbing Community College coach Sara Matuszak has been tapped to take the reigns at Mesabi Range this fall; Matuszak led the HCC Cardinals to a 17-11 overall and 10-4 MCAC record in 2017. Hibbing's assistant coach, Nina Kangas has been promoted to the head coaching role and will lead Hibbing when they open up their season later this month.
At Minnesota West CTC, the LadyJays announced a new head coach as well. Rebecca Colon will take over in Worthington this season and will be assisted by CJ Nelson. In a battle of first-year head coaches, Hibbing and MnWest will face off at the MCAC Crossover Tournament, hosted by St. Cloud Technical & Community College on August 24th.
