It was a busy week for volleyball teams across the Minnesota College Athletic Conference, with several Conference matches as well as non-Conference clashes of ranked teams.
The best of the MCAC volleyball performances have been named as Players-of-the-Week.

Setter-of-the-Week Mikala Kowarsch So. / Iron, MN Setter

Mikayla Kowarsch, a sophomore from Iron, Minnesota, has earned MCAC Setter-of-the-Week honors for her play representing Mesabi Range College. This past week Mikayla collected 38 set assists, had three aces, eight digs, and two blocks in a pair of Mesabi Range victories. MRC collected a MCAC win over Vermillion Community College on Friday, September 7, as well as a non-conference win over NJCAA Division II Gogebic Community College. Currently, Kowarsch and the Norse are 2-0 in the MCAC Northern Division and play Tuesday, September 11 against Hibbing Community College. |

Defensive Player-of-the-Week
Hailey Tihlarik Onamia, MN Libero

Hailey Tihlarik, a freshman libero at Central Lakes College, has earned the Defensive Player-of-the-Week honor for the week ending Sunday, September 8. Tihlarik helped lead CLC to a team record of 4-1 over that span, with wins against Northland CTC, Madison College, #1 ranked Harper College and NJCAA Division II Ellsworth Community College. Tihlarik had 132 total digs 132 over that stretch, averaging 6.6 per set. She also picked up five aces, while serving at a 97.5 % clip. Tihlarik racked up over 20 digs in four of her five matches, with a whooping 43 digs against Ellsworth. Tihlarik and CLC return to MCAC action with a Wednesday, September 12 match against Itasca Community College. |

Hitter-of-the-Week Kassandra Algarate Hancock, MN Outside Hitter

M State-Fergus Falls was able to get their team back on track in a big way over the past week, knocking off #1 ranked Harper College as a part of a 4-1 run for the Spartans and Kassandra Algarate was a major factor in their success. Algarate had 56 kills for the week, with 16 of them coming against NJCAA Division II program Ellsworth Community College. The Hancock, Minnesota product also achieved a hitting percentage of 0.400 against Harper College the #1 ranked NJCAA Div III team according to the latest NJCAA poll. Her overall hitting percentage of the week was 0.269% and M State picked up wins against Ellsworth CC, Harper College, Williston State College and the JV team of Bethel University. The Spartans play next on Wednesday, September 12 at St. Cloud Technical & Community College, with a matchtime of 6:30pm |

All-Around Player-of-the-Week
Rilee Hohbein Fr. Holdingford, MN Middle Hitter

Rileee Hohbein was a key part of a 2-0 MCAC Southern Division sweep for St. Cloud Technical & Community College over the past week. The freshman from Holdingford, Minnesota hit .438 with 16 total attacks and nine kills against Anoka-Ramsey Community College in a mid-week MCAC showdown on Wednesday. She followed up that stellar performance by hitting .588 with ten kills and 17 total attacks on Friday against Western Technical College in a home match at the Whitney Center. Hohbein and the Cyclones raised their record to 6-2 overall and sit unbeaten at 2-0 in MCAC Southern Division play. |
